Fifty years ago, in 1961...

I attended my first Texas OU game. Damn, I just realized that fact-I may have seen more than half of the OU games I will ever witness at this point.
Off to Dallas in the morning, the State Fair of Texas tomorrow, and the greatest college football game of the year on Saturday. I'm an addict, I love it!

I suspect you will remember many details about every one of them... I know I do.

My first game was 1968 with my Dad and we were in the UT end zone that James "Slick" Street engineered the late 4th quarter winning drive with mostly passes to TE Daryl Comer before FB Steve Worster launched himself into the end zone for the winning TD and the crowd absolutley erupted!

Have fun & please eat a corn dog with a lot of mustard for me, wash it down with a beer and ogle some young UT coeds for this old geezer!

That 1968 game was my first also. A big OU donor had given my Mother the tickets. We were on the OU side a couple of sections down from the band at about the 40. For luck I wore one orange sock and one white sock and we ate Youngblood's Fried Chicken by the lagoon.

1966: I had promised my girl friend that I would take her to the OU game (she attended SFA). There were only 200 "date tickets" available in a student lottery. Of course, two days before the game, I am notified that I do not have a ticket for her.

While bemoaning my situation in the rooming house that I resided my freshman year, a married grad student offered an idea. He and his wife (not a student) would be attending the game. The blanket tax had one's picture on it, but the spouse's version did not. Somehow, I was able to walk in the gate with his wife and he entered with my girl friend!

As we entered the Cotton Bowl, a couple in front of us was trying to pass off his date with a borrowed blanket tax. The ticket taker pocketed their tickets, IDs and blanket taxes. I imagine they had to meet with the Dean to retrieve same and face suspension from school.

We beat the system that day. My girl friend was so impressed that she transfered to UT the next year and we attended the games legit.

That was the last time I saw the grad student and his wife. I would like to use this forum to express my long overdue thanks. My girl friend (now spouse) and I have attended about 1/2 of the OU games since.
