Fielding:

This could be our downfall. Here we are in the championship series despite our fielding problems. Since I hadn't followed the team throughout the year, I was extremely concerned during the regionals when Augie would pull both Clark and Keyes for defensive replacements.

Last night showed me why he pulled them. Some of the blame on the fly ball to left does go to the grass. How about the right field issue?

Am I the only one who thought Keyes had trouble moving to his left? I really didn't think that ball was a line drive, it looked kind of like a low fly ball that someone with a good jump on the ball might actually have a chance to catch.

Maybe they got all of the errors out of their system?

The ball hit to Keyes was in the corner and unless the RF is playing closer to the line I don't think many (if any) RF's would have gotten that ball. Having said that, Keyes basically gave the guy an extra base due to his ill-advised dive which still left him at least 5 feet short of the ball.

Anyway, I think we'll be alright vs LSU. Based on what this team has done all season long, especially the dramatic wins in the last few weeks, who could bet against this team?

In spite of all the miscues, Michael Torres had the defensive game of his UT career last night. He was on fire at third base.

Keyes doesn't usually dive for balls like that. He's generally a pretty smart outfielder who knows when to dive and when to take a bounce. I think he just got too caught up in what was going on last night and lost sight of where he was on the field. It's definitely something he needs to think about and correct before the next game, but that is not normal for him.

The lack of communication was what concerned me. That's Little League stuff. It's inexcusable at this level.

If I saw the stats going into this CWS correctly, I think we were 17th nationally in feilding, and 4th in pitching. I am not too concerned about our defense. Offensively, it will take at least 5 runs for us to be close. I don't think there will be a 2-2 tie going into the ninth in this series.

It is hard to get a truly fair comparison of this longhorn team's stats. That fieldturf field they play on causes serious under-inflation of their offensive stats and over-inflates their defensive stats. That is one soft, slow field.

It would be nice if we would stop giving up runs to errors in the field. Reminds me all too much of the Championship Series with CSF.

Both guys slipped at the last second on the wet field in left. Rockwall probably shoulda called off B Loy but Brandon really was moving to get that one.

Keyes wasn't going to get to that ball in right - just a great line shot. Dive was not that bad a call on Kevin's part as he was trying to make a great play in a crucial spot. He was only a few feet off the wall so he knew he'd either make an amazing play or worst case hold the runner to 3rd with Woody on the mound. I'll take that. His bat needs to be in the lineup.

Oh yeah, I made it a point to let MR. Torres know that that was some MVP stuff he showed last night to ensure we won Championship #5. Good Lord, that kiddo stepped UP last night and was a black hole at 3rd against them Devils.

We were actually 5th in fieldng and 2nd in staff ERA coming into the CWS. We are now 1st in ERA, maybe a little worse in fielding.

It doesn't matter how we got there. The fact is, we ARE there, and I expect this team to step up and do the things it takes to win.

what is most encouraging to me is that we have kicked it around badly and overcome that. this team has flashed pretty good leather this year, and I expect that to return to form (puhlease).
