fence along Mopac

There's a fence that's been built recently along the east side of southbound Mopac in the Spicewood Springs Rd. to Far West area. It's made of metal posts with what looks like metal cable running between them.

Anybody know what it's for? It's not a big fence, but it is kind of ugly.

it's there to prevent cross-over wrecks. While it is pretty ugly, (IMO) it's better than concrete barriers.

I wondered about that when I first saw it a week ago. It runs from around Spicewood Springs down to 2222 or so.

I think it's just a guardrail. At first I thought it was temporary, but I think it's there for good.

Was that area prone to crossover wrecks? I've driven it pretty much every day for the past 15 years and I can't recall even one such incident.

They will be removed when the toll lanes go in. Mopac is going to have an additional (toll) lane (each direction) from Parmer to the river. It sure is going to suck driving on Mopac when this construction starts. Bridges have to be widened, additional lanes built, etc.
