Feliz is overrated

He may have had a ton of saves last year, but much of that was due to good fortune in the number of opportunities provided him. A great closer should be able to keep batters off balance and guessing what's next. Feliz has a very good fastball but it's not overpowering, and the batters know what's coming on virtually every pitch. He also has control issues, and I honestly can't remember the last time he came in and got three straight outs without giving up a walk or base hit.

Bottom line, as a Rangers fan, I do not feel comfortable with Feliz on the mound in a tight game and am interested to see how the rest of you Ranger zealots feel about him as the closer.

Tough loss last night, but this team will be there in October, especially in the subpar AL West.

I hate to admit it, but I agree. I want so to believe in him, but he lets me down time and again (as does most of the 'pen). The Rangers need bullpen help and I hope Nolan Ryan and Jon Daniels are working on something.

and the problem is he isn't getting banged around, he is just wild which gets him into some bad situations.

Hitters are sitting on the fastball, which doesn't have the movement it had last year. He just has to learn to be a pitcher and not a thrower. If he cannot make the transition, he'll have a relatively short career in the bigs.

he's taken a step back this year. He needs to be able to throw his breaking pitch for a strike. This year he's been figured out.

Rangers need to get the guy from San Diego right now.

Btw, both Daniels and Ryan were at Frisco the other night, wonder if they were watching anybody specifically?

I hope they were looking at talent to trade for some bullpen help.

Right on cue, the guy gets a 1-2-3 9th and looks good doing it. Haven't seen that in a while. I don't think he has 'figured it out' or turned a corner, but he definitely had it working last night with a lot of movement on that fastball.

Time will tell if it continues...

Let's not give up on Feliz too soon. Closer has some "mental" and maturity aspects. Most kids his age are in AA or AAA hoping for a sept callup to the bigs. He's got terrific stuff. That said, I'd love to have a mature, experienced closer in here. But I don't think I'd want to give up Derek Holland and Jurickson Profar to rent Bell for the rest of this season.

And Holland should NOT be sent to bullpen. Despite is inconsistency from game to game, he's been more on than off. Today he throws 35 pitches in 1st 2 innings - 41 over the next 5! while still throwing (another?) shutout. Wowzer.

Not to sidetrack the thread

, but MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! on Holland today. 95 pitches, 4th shutout joins Lee as the only 2 in the majors. awesome stuff.

Hook'em!!!

That the way baseball go sometimes.

It has buggeed me but I believe Feliz will work out of this funk he has been in.

H69 - as for Holland: he has been on fire lately! sending him to the bullpen when he has 4 recent shutouts going would be insane?

Rangers would be running away with the west but for leads lost in the last two innings this year.

It doesn't help when he was pitching in his third consecutive game, which is a bone-headed decision IMHO. Still, Feliz is not the same pitcher he was last year.

He has a FAST ball that is uncontrolled as of yet. He is very young to be where he is now. They are trying to get the control into his pitches. Too much changing and he has lost his natural fastball. He'll figure it out, but it's got to be soon. He really should have started out in minor league first. He needs some direction, but in time he will turn out to be amazing. I hope.
