Favorite Margarita Recipe

We're hosting a Cinco de Mayo/Fight Night party and plan on serving Margaritas. I can make some pretty simple but good frozen margaritas but they take a little more time to make and I don't want to be stuck by the blender all night. So tell me how I should make Margaritas on the rocks tomorrow night.

alot of posters here get oist for my ritas.

the recipe is easy.

patron silver
cointreau
a LOT of fresh squeezed lime juice.
splash or so of sweet and sour.

that's all.

you want about twice as much tequila as cointreau. you want about 1/2 of the total volume (i prefer 3/4) to be liquor.

the non alcohlic half should be about 3/4 lime juice and 1/4 S&S.

this depends on the limes though.

these are rough guesses, and bartending is JUST like cookinbg. it's about "feel" and taste/adjust, rather than hard measurements.

and:

if you're making a huge batch like I am tomorrow, you may go with cheaper white tequoila, such as el jimador or something.

cointreau is key, and not really interchageable, with one exception, which is citronge, by patron.

also, you'll want to use more s&s, since squeezing 100 limes would suck.

and I forgot to add the first time, if you vary from my instructions, fine, BUT:

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE YOU TO EVER USE ANYTHING WITH THE WORDS "MARGARITA MIX" ON THE LABEL. THAT **** IS AWFUL, MAKES PEOPLE'S STOMACH HURT, HEARTBURN, HANGOVERS, ETC.

scottins has the recipe nailed. If you're making them one at a time, my favorite is

juice from 3 key limes
1.5 oz blanco tequila (preferably Patron Silver)
0.5 oz Cointreau
splash of orange juice

Perfect.

Do you litteraly squeeze limes in? I plan on making them by the pitcher and that's a lot of squeezing if you don't have one of the lime squeezing things. Hmmm... I might have to make margaritas tonight to practice.

Slightly lower class but very good for a party

1 6oz can limeade
Use that to measure 1 can tequila
3/4 can triple sec
Fill ice to top of blender

serve with squeeze of fresh lime

also you can mix in fresh fruit like strawberries or mango

these are much less work and just about as good, especially for frozen ritas...

Let us know how that juicer works. I hate squeezing limes.

Of course, I don't really need an incentive to drink more margaritas.

i have a crappy electric juicer that works great, I'm sure the others are good too. It really saves time... And screwdrivers with fresh OJ are about 20000000000 times better than with any other.

I got some ?sp Bouchant-- a french oranege flavored brandy--not really a liquor-- about $20 for a 750-- but still cheaper than couinteau-- worth a try

I find Grand Marnier to be an acceptable substitute for Cointreau. I also prefer my margaritas on the tart side, so I routinely pass on the S&S/orange juice and just go 1/2 liquor and 1/2 lime juice. They're not for everyone, but they do get your face ready to kiss someone a lot faster.

At this moment I don't remember exactly what i put in them but apparently it worked because i don'rt remember much of anything

For convenience sake, I recommend going to central market and getting a bottle of fresh squeezed lime juice for $1.99.

And I've had a lot of trouble getting margarita's to taste right. I have tried jimmyjazz's recipe and it is pretty much a sure thing.

Here's mine...

2 cups sweet & sour
1 cup triple sec
1/4 cup grand mariner
1 1/2 cup gold tequila

Shake or stir vigourusly. Squeze juice of 1/2 lime into salt rimmed glass of ice and pour. Enjoy.

Holy crap, Central Market sells fresh-squeezed lime juice?

My liver will never be the same. Thanks, I guess.

How much lime juice do you get for $1.98?

It's hard to screw up good tequila. Stick with 100% Blue Agave and you will be fine. In fact I can no longer drink the JC Gold or any blended tequila any longer.

I use 2.5 parts OTB Margarita mix + .5 part water + 1 part tequlia and a splash of Triple Sec, squeeze in a fresh lime wedge. Ahhhhh.

no offense at all intended, but putting nice tequila with any premade marg. mix is a horrible idea.

not jsut that is sucks, but most importantly, because doing it "right" is not really any more difficult and the result is immeasurably better.

I have two recipes in rotation. One on the rocks and one frozen.

Rocks:
6 parts tequila
4-6 parts sweet and sour depending on taste
2 parts triple sec
squeeze of fresh lime

shake and pour over ice. I use Sauza for economic reasons and it tastes fine, but obviously in this recipe the better tequila you use the better the margarita. The original recipe called for Tavern Sweet and Sour which is good but a bit tart for my palate, so I prefer Rose's Sweet and Sour when I can find it.

frozen (this is similar to K-man's and is my father in law's recipe)

6 oz can frozen limeade
6 oz tequila
4 oz triple sec
splash of orange juice
ice to fill to 32 oz line

blend until smooth. yum.

use 100% tequila, not grain alch ****.

I like use a little brandy in mine.

1 part teq
1/2 part citronage/GM/triple sec
juice of one lime per serving
splash (say 1/2 part) of s&s or marg mix (DJ Jardines is my fav)
splash (say 1/4 part) brandy cheap as they make.
splash of OJ (say 1/4 part)

add ice to shaker with above above and well, shake. I serve 'em up with no ice in marg glasses But hell, anything works, they really are hard to screw up.

I have added sugar to the shaker if people like them sweeter or put more s&s or OJ.

Two ounces Cazadores reposado, one ounce Cointreau, and the juice of half a lime, or the juice of 2 key limes; serve on the rocks in an appropriate salt rimmed glass.

Within 10 minutes you will hear mariachis and think you're in Reynosa.

I haven't found a mix that I like, even some high end ones. There is just nothing better than fresh lime juice and your own simple syrup, instead of a mix or botlled s&s.

I read a recipe online that called for adding some beer (anywhere from a splash to 1/3 bottle for a pitcher). It somehow was supposed to make the margarita smoother. I tried it this weekend with Lite (light beer is supposed to work better than full flavored beer). Damn. We all liked it. I know it's not for the purist, but it may be something I do now and then. I made a pitcher than put some with the beer in a shaker and poured on the rocks. Not sure how beer would do in a blender!

It's funny that you mentioned the beer. I had some "margarita punch" that was doen the same way and called for light beer also. I think it had minute maid limeade (frozen cans) plus tequila and beer. It was actually really good. I don't know the exact recipe but I do know that lighter beer was recommended (I think it may have even been cheap beer like keystone or natty). Either way, it makes it easier to drink a lot of margaritas, i guess since it is not as sour.

my margarita recipe is one i stole from a restaurant in cabo. herradura silver tequila over ice (about a shot to a shot & a half), key lime juice, and a splash of damiana (a mexcian liquor, looks like a gold budha bottle) and a splash of contreau.

I've bought the CM lime juice and it's a nice product, I guess, but it has nothing on key lime juice. Key limes, which are usually not from the Florida Keys, but from mexico, will not give you instant heartburn. They are muc less acidic it seems to me. My recipe is 1/3, 1/3, 1/3.
