since i've finally locked down a wedding date, now i can turn my attention to the honeymoon planning--and we're going to a beach. don't know which one, but we want to stay ON the beach, not near it. what recommendations do you have? i really just want to be able to roll out of bed, head to the beach, maybe snorkel some, relax in a spa, and if it's possible (but not necessary) play some golf.

for reference, i've been to Kauai (south side) and absolutely loved it, and the Bahamas (cable beach) and also enjoyed it.

We've been getting advice to just go to mexico (the playa links are very helpful) or the bahamas since they're close, but our wedding is at the end of october, which besides being football season is also hurricane season iirc. i'd love to go to fiji, if travel time and flights aren't prohibitive, but spending 4 days travelling is not my idea of fun.

thanks in advance!

I always pimp Cabo but that's all I really know. The Melia San Lucas is on the beach and has a spa. Cabo golf courses are out of this world.

Turtle Bay Hilton on Oahu. Far away from the touristas of Waikiki, PGA-level golf, private beach and recently renovated, at least I think the renovations are complete. Easy access to the windward side of the island that has numerous beaches with little to no crowds.

We honeymooned at Caneel Bay on St. John, USVI, and stayed in a beachfront villa, on Scott's Beach, and, as you put it, I could just roll out of bed and be on the beach (as long as I was able to dodge a half-dozen palm trees.

Turks and Caicos Islands are getting more popular it seems. We're looking at staying at the The Regent Palms next April.

St. John is very nice with several choices. Also, the leeward side of Barbados has nice resorts on gorgeous beaches. Both are more laid back than many beach destinations if that suits your style.

We stayed at the Wyndham on St Thomas.
People always say that St Thomas is crap compared to St Johns, because it is so overrun with tourists. They are right if you are staying near the city. But this resort and a few others are on the east side of the island away from all the commotion. It works out well, because you can relax and be away from everything, but if you want to do touristy stuff, it's a quick cab ride away.
