I can tell you that at more than one of my bars where I used to live, the bartender would outright refuse to make a black and tan. He also refused to stock or sell Stella.

Many, many years ago, I was at Carney's in College Station and ordered black & tan. The bartender asked me what that was so I told him, "It's 1/2 Bass and 1/2 Guinees." He looked at me like I was crazy but turned to the wall of taps to get it. When he came back, he gave me 2 glasses, one half-full of Bass and one half-full of Guiness.
