Father's Day

I know, it's kinda early to be posting something like this, but I like to be ahead of the game when it comes to gifts. I really have no idea what to get my dad this year for D-Day. I would like to get him tickets to the CWS, but there is no guarantee that the good guys will make it to Omaha. Besides, that is just too expensive for a college student like myself. I also thought of signing him up for the Richard Petty Driving Experience, but once again, money is an issue. Even if I split the cost between my 2 sisters and I, it would still be a lot.

My dad is always hard to buy gifts for. There just isn't really anything he wants that he doesn't already have. I'm also stuck with the problem of being the one relied on the most heavily to come up with something. I spend more time with my old man than anyone besides my mom, but she is terrible at coming up with gift ideas.

For his last birthday and for last year's Christmas, I purchased and framed two Sports Illustrated reprints. One with Earl gracing the cover, and the other with Worster on the front. He definitely enjoys having the posters, but I would like to get him something different this time around.

His interests:
UT sports
the stock market
Steve Martin

That's pretty much it. We go golfing occasionally, but not nearly enough to really consider buying him lessons. He just can't get out to the course often enough because his job just doesn't allow it. Any suggestion y'all have is much appreciated. For every other member of my family, I always have something that just strikes me as the perfect gift for them. For some reason, this doesn't happen with him.

Thanks in advance.

Sister number 1 is 27 and married. Sister number 2 is 23 and one semester away from college graduation. The old man is 54.

You might be surprised how much he would appreciate a framed photo of the three of you (and any grandkids). I'm basically 50 and if I really want something, I go get it for myself. A decent length visit or phone call is better than other stuff for me. I haven't emptied the nest yet so I can't really say, but I'd probably want it to get filled up and then emptied again.

Not sure if Steve Martin's band is taking another tour, but tickets to see them would be pretty cool. They played at the Bass Concert Hall in Fort Worth about a year ago. I heard it was a really good show. They also sell VIP passes to go back stage and meet Steve Martin before the concert. It won't be cheap, but won't be anywhere near as much as the NASCAR thing.

Nickdanger is right, I know this year we will give my dad a framed picture of his grandkids and I'll grill while he swims with his grandkids. It will be a great day all around.

The picture is probably a no go. My oldest sis lives too far away for my other sister and I to easily get a picture with her.

The Steve Martin concert is a real possibility. It is something that my mom would enjoy (I got her the most recent CD for Mother's Day). I'm just not quite sure how much my dad would go for it. He really isn't into any kind of music very much, and actually makes fun of my mom sometimes for being a hillbilly. The fact that it is Steve Martin does help, but really the only way I think he would enjoy it is if he did get to meet Steve. Anyone have an idea on how much that would cost?
