Farewell soccer hype

Not for me and countless others. This is virtually a year long pleasure. Your obsession is noted.

I am laughing at you.

Oh, and that means every single year. There is so much soccer to watch and many will be discovering that as well. You will also see the WC thread quite active and continue to grow larger and larger, unlike common sense in some. I am sorry you won't get your wish, your fantasy.

No I am not. Too much soccer to watch than deal with mere fleas in the big picture.

I am hungry.

Should I get a hamburger or some pizza?

I have to admit that I have never been much of a soccer fan. But for some reason it all kind of clicked together this year and I really enjoyed the Cup matches.

I also really enjoyed the posts on here from all of you which helped me understand things a little better.

Hey, with no CWS and no Astros, this was getting me through the football (American

) off season.

Now what do I do until September?

salong, it's time for you to start gearing up for club play overseas.

There are great leagues all over and the English one, the EPL has numerous matches broadcast here. It's great fun. Then there are the Champions League and UEFA Cup as well as the FA competition which is open to all club teams in the UK. That's a lot of soccer being played.

Starting next year the Euro teams will be getting ready to qualify for the Euro Cup which is a blast to watch. It's like the WC only it's for Euro teams. Then we have the Gold Cup, the Confederations Cup and well, you see the list goes on and on.

When a sport is as big as this one is there is something going on almost all the time.

Now is when teams start to acquire players and position themselves for the next season. It's fun to follow the drama and snarky comments players and fans make.

Enjoy and if you ever have questions, let us know. Gem will answer them.

Well, in the future I may not just surf to the next channel when I see soccer on ESPN.

Here's a funny story. My son actually played for a few years beginning when he was 3 or 4 years old. Well I remember one game when the coach was sick as a dog and they didn't have anyone else to stand in, so I was chosen. This was pretty funny because I barely knew what a goal was. At that age, I was able to be on the field with them. Half way through the game one of the little boys started chasing a butterfly right in the middle of play. He ran off the field and into a group of trees. I ran after him and being the good stand in coach, I brought him back onto the field.

I watched today out of jingoism, not for any love of the sport. However, for those of you who like it, I am glad that you have year-long opportunities to watch soccer.

Euro 2012 qualifying starts next spring and the Copa America is on tap too. Yeah the W/C is the big Daddy but even the Copa de Oro for Concacaf can be exciting. That and the growth of the Champions League mean futbol is year round every year not just every four years. I am looking forward to cheering on the Americans who go on to EPL play this fall, I fully expect Donovan in England and lets see who else can work their way to euro squads.

I fully expect for Jurgen K'man to be our coach when we next take the field for the World Cup. I am putting that out there now and I don't think it is a stretch.

Farewell thread-shitters. See you never...

Btw, does anyone know why the U.S. wasn't invited to Copa America 2011? It said Mexico and Japan were the two invites. Is it because we brought the B/C team last time? After Sudamerica's showing thus far in 2010, Copa America should be great.

Way to go Yanks! Good showing and a handful of memorable moments!

I'll have the pleasure of watching the Mexican league, which has every single of its weekly games broadcast here in the US (usually over the air), the Copa Libertadores, La Liga, the EPL, Champions League....

Next summer we get a Gold Cup, Mexico gets a Copa America (albeit with a U23 team -- which might not be so bad). I beleive they have been wanting to invite Japan for a while now, and when the US sent that crap team, it just made it easier. But Concacaf, in their infinite wisdom, told Mexico they could only compete if they sent their olympic team.

Personally, I would love to see a Copa de las Americas where the Concacaf hexers and the 10 south american teams play in one tournament the same year as the euro.

I have noticed that no one on here has mentioned MLS as a viable viewing option. Interesting.

i will probably start following the dynamos a little closer.

anyone have recommendations for a good european team to follow? i need more soccer in my life.

I would absolutely love a Tournament of the Americas matching conmebol and concacaf and yes the South American teams would likely dominate but hold it in the northern half of hemisphere every other tourny and the US and Mexico would be competitive.

The USA must schedule tougher friendlies and a more challenging set of build up than the standard concacaf heavy stuff we normally get. How about bringing back the US Cup that used to bring in 3 big teams and give three tough friendlies.

In searching for a European or English Premier team to root for I always give this advice, be patient. It will come to you. Maybe check out what team a favorite US player is on or goes to. Maybe you will latch on to a player from a different country and find the team they play for. Look into their history and even what their kits look like. Sorry, uniforms. Who is their sponsor?

Have you visited that country or city? Is there a band or actor from there you like? A lot can go into it. When you do find that team after watching a few you will be hooked to them for likely quite some time. This is whether they win or lose. It won't matter as long as they put a gutsy performance in.

If you end up rooting for one of the bigger more famous teams, so be it, as long as you have your reasons other than they are on tv all the time or you saw them in a headline. That is lame, imho.

You should all be supporters for MLS! The league needs fans if it will ever grow. Eventually it could compete with the euro leagues but not if we all just relegate it to crap.

No argument here. I was a fan at the very beginning and even traveled with the Barra Brava for road trips to include the first final located in a very cold and rainy Foxboro, MA. I guess when I moved from D.C. I sort of lost track of it all since I could not just hop on the subway and go watch matches at RFK Stadium.

I will make it a point to support and follow it much closer for the reasons you lay out. They are the troof.

what kind of team does klinsmann produce?

bradley's team are defensive and conservative (at least in my eyes)

what's klinsmann's coaching style? i wanted him to be our coach last go around.
