Far west area

Looks like that's where I'm gonna live when I move back to Austin. It's clean and convenient. It's not downtown, but I think I would rather have a nicer apt. now.

There aren't nice apts. in central Austin that are cheap.

what do you guys think of Far West? I think I'm gonna live at either Savannah, Archstone or Bent Oaks. Any experiences with the aforementioned places? Greystone and The Ridge are out. So is Indian Creek.

I lived in Far West this past year. It's a really good area and especially for the reasons you listed.

As for apartments, I lived in Savannah. Old management was outstanding, new management sucks. Don't live there. They also raised the rent $150 for no apparently good reason.

Archstone and Bent Oaks are more expensive and well, they should be. Archstone is more luxurious, in that the apartments are kept nicer and so are the amenities. Bent Oaks, I think, has the happiest residents. I don't know what that means... but go for Archstone if they have any specials running.

Savannah is to apartments as Oklahoma is to states.

that sucks about Savannah. Adrienne isn't there anymore? What was the going rate for a 1br when you left? I went in there the other day and the guy working there seemed like a tool. Not to digress, but I don't think straight guys should work in apartment offices. Hot chicks is what's needed.

I'm gonna checkout Oak Ridge soon. I think they have some with a view.

Adrienne left 2 owners ago. Living there was kind of a clusterfuck because of the multiple owner changes. The tool who works up front is possibly one of the least professional managers I have seen. Opens late, leaves early, sometimes doesn't come into the office on weekends when they are open.

I don't know what the 1br rent was as I had a 2br, but my rent was $760 (now $910 or so).

The one positive about Savannah is that it is no longer *** gray, or at least that was the plan.

That guy was a tool. Glad I wasn't the only one who thought that. he seemed peeved that we walked in, and that's something Adrienne was not. She was a pro and knew how to close.

This sucks cuz I really wanted to live there.

Was thinking about Marquis @ caprock, but i don't like that location quite as much.

What about living in the Arboretuem area? It's nicer, probably cheaper, and only a few more minutes north of Far West. I've lived in both areas and it seems like the only plus to Far West is the shuttle to campus if you're in school.

i lived in both. that few minutes turns into 15 minutes or so during rush hour.

that gets annoying. plus, the bus service makes an even bigger difference. whereas one comes around every 30 minutes, the other every 5-10.

I live in Far West and love it! Bus system is excellent & u have everything u need within about a 5-10 minute drive or so.

i love far west too. it's perfect. i've lived here for 4 years. i live in edgecliff, which is condos rather than apartments - but a lot of times there are some being rented out - you can drive around the complex and look for signs. i have no idea what the going rate is for renting. it is a super nice complex, very well maintained, great location. the condos are older, but most have been redone and fixed up. there are one bedroom loft type things, one bedroom "aspen" styles, and then two bedroom two story ones.

Tenacious,
What a coincidence, my mother-in-law lives in Edgecliff (bought it last year). We live right down the street on Greystone, and bring the kids over occasionally to swim in the pool. Nice pool.

I picked the fw area because the gf will be vehicle less and there's tons of restaurants, etc. around there. It's also a very clean area, imo.

i lived in savannah last year. i know adrienne was still there during the summer. i guess it was good timing when we left. my 1br went for $620 and i remember they had specials last summer, 2br for $720. it seemed to be by far one of the better places in far west.

i live off mesa. rent a duplex. i lived at greystone park or whatever for a total of 4 years. then moved to gables on mesa and now in a duplex. drive around there and look for for lease signs. might find something you like. condos in that area too.

when i lived in far west there were definitely not 'shitloads' of restaurants. mesa hills, blvd bar and grill, a sandwich shop and a mexican restaurant where el arroyo is. that's it. and mesa hills was either really good or vomit-inducing.

i personally don't like that area. not sure why, really. that's right. my ******* car was broken into 3 times and my girfriend caught a peeping tom. this was in the NW Hills rapist's heyday. that was oak hollow at the time. i've lived in 4 different complexes over there.

whatever you do, avoid greystone point. that place eats dingleberries.

the gables off of mesa drive isn't bad. Nice area, really nice pools, and virtually no problems with the actual apartment. Just the parking can blow at times.

I personally wasn't too found of the far west area because there weren't enough places to eat around. But overall nice for the price and nice neighborhoods.

Canyonside Trail in the house.

I've lived here for nearly two weeks now. Its OK I guess. I have a small crush on one of the Starbucks girls. I wish I had a bike.

Not trying to be a thread hijacker, but I've lived in the area for awhile, great area, close to lots of shopping , restauraunts (Arboretum, Gateway, Northcross etc.)

Anyway, my wife and I own a couple duplexes in the area one is off of Far West and Hart Lane about a 5 minute walk to FW bus stop nearthe HEB deatils here:3BR 2BA 1730 sq ft

The other one is near Spicewood Springs Road and Mopac3BR 2.5BA - 1650 sq ft

Just in case your interested. They both have covered porches, fenced yards with 1 car garages

I loved Far West and lived there for 5+ years. But I've been by the Arboretum for six months now and like it much better.

I'd give Bent Oaks my vote as the best complex over there, though Archstone was okay, too. I lived in Oak Hollow, which was also pretty cool. They have a nice pool area.

Archstone wanted 600 for their efficiency. They are booked solid

well, the market sure has tightened up. Lots of 750.00 apts that were 580.00 two, three years ago. Not a whole lot of vacancies this time of the year.

That tool from Savannah that wouldn't show us an apt because my gf only had her high school id sucks. Everyone else (all chicks) let us tour with only her high school id. What a tool. "I'm sorry, it's against state law.'

Anyways, had to settle for my 5th or 6th option pretty much. Got a 1br in the arboretum, not my favorite area, but it will do. I used a locator but didn't really need one. Figured I'd throw a friend a bone. But, I wasn't gonna get the 3 weeks free until I asked for it.
