All of this talk about Tex-Mex restaurants and Fantasy Football lately got me thinking of the ultimate Tex-Mex experience. What if you could build the perfect meal by choosing your favorite items from all of the best Tex-Mex locations in Austin. Who has the best chips, best salsa, best queso, best echiladas, margaritas, etc. What would your Fantasy Tex-Mex experience include? Damn I miss the food in Austin.

Best Queso: Maudies
Best Pastor Tacos: Curra's South, Changos
Best Tex-Mex Cheese Enchiladas: Enchiladas Y Mas
Best Escabeche, Salsa, Refried Beans, Chalupa (picadillo), and non-Tex Mex Enchilada (Michocana): Las Manitas
Best Green Chile: Chuys
Best $6 plate: Darios
Best Relleno: Polvos
Best Fajita Dinner: Serranos (the one with beef, chicken, sausage and shrimp)(and yes thats the only thing I order there)
Best random, tripped out place attached to a convenience store where you'd never expect to find great Mexican food: Oaxacan Tamaleo
There are some places south that I havent tried before though. I always enjoy reading peoples votes/recc's on specific dishes and places, especilaly when it turns me on to a new place or dish

I need to try Amaya's. Heard nothing but great reviews.

Ditto on Best Mexican Chicken is El Regio. I left that off my list. I would say El Regio also qualifies as best overall value. A whole roasted chicken, beans, rice, roasted onion, two kinds of sauce, a dozen tortillas, $11.
