I was actually posting about taking the bus to the game in Waco. But since this first game appears to have generated no posts, this is a good a place to talk about.
First, I was really proud of the effort the team played with. The game got away during an eight minute stretch when Baylor stretched their lead from four points to 21 points.
Baylor is extremely physical. We talk about how physical WVU is, but Baylor is physical without fouling. Horns didn't back down, though. Tough to get a shot off but I was impressed with Celina's ability to handle the ball against Sims as Celina only had two TOs in 24 minutes.
Baylor compensated for Griner getting into foul trouble by bringing another senior (Williams) off the bench. Tough sledding for our frosh and one soph inside. They did score 14 points (discounting Imani's trey and all posts' FTs) and grabbed 25 rebounds (Imani had 18).
Overall, it was, for me, very encouraging, given the team they were playing. Now, if they can duplicate that type of effort consistently, it will be something to watch. That's another reason I am looking forward to seeing how the two teams play against each other in a couple of weeks.
