Fan Appreciation Day at Stanford game

As expected, Nneka (15.7 ppg & 10.3 rpg), Imani (13.0 ppg , 7.7 rpg & 3.7 bpg) and Chassidy (12.7 ppg, 6.3 rpg & 2.3 apg) lead the Horns in scoring and rebounding. The bench has been productive so far with the Horns getting between 19.8 and 21.7 ppg and 11.4 and 12.7 rpg (depending on whether Brady or Empress starts).

Stanford will counter with their own trio. Consensus All-American 6-4 F Sr. Chiney Ogwumike (27.5 ppg & 13.3 rpg) is the main cog in the frontcourt for the Cardinal. Mikaela Ruef (6-3 RS Sr. F) provides rebounding help to Ogwumike with 10.3 rpg. Amber Orrange (5-7 PG) is the second leading scorer with 14.3 ppg and third leading rebounder at 5.0 rpg. Orrange (19 assists) and Ruef (11 assists) pass the ball well, usually to Ogwumike.

The matchup most are anticipating will be between the Horns’ Nneka and Stanford’s Ogwumike. The two strong, athletic forwards with powerful post games will be showcased in this game. Both average double doubles in scoring and rebounding. Orrange against either Krystal or Empress will also be interesting to watch due to the quickness all three have. This matchup may be the more important for the Horns if they can disrupt the Cardinal offense by their defense on Orrange. Foul trouble could be a big factor if either or both of Nneka and Ogwumike get in foul trouble. Texas has been taking better advantage of their chances at the FT line than Stanford coming into this game. Horns are at 73.6% while Stanford is 58.6%.

The rotation for Texas has nine players in double digit minutes through three games while Stanford goes eight deep in double digit minutes through four games. Can’t see the rotation changing much in this game.

It should be a great game. Hope to see a bunch of Texas fans watch the four Stanford Texans come back to the state for a loss.

So far so good.Very Pride of the Team so far.Just keeping playing hard, and you will get the upset. Imani already with a Double - Double.

Horns looking good so far, leading by 7 at the half. And that's with Nneka heading to the bench at the ten min mark after picking up two quick fouls. A big difference is the Cardinal only getting to the FT line twice, for a total of 3 pts; Horns have scored a dozen off FTs. We have a great chance of winning this game, esp with Nneka back in the second half, and if our guards step it up just a little. Thus far they've shot a combined 4-15, or 26%, and that's with a couple of late baskets from Chas. Overall a very strong first half for Texas. Now let's put the hammer down and finish strong!

Wow cold spell for the Horns. After leading 40-32 they are now trailing 43-40; 11 unanswered points for the Cardinal. Time to get back on track, still just a 3 pt game. A Stanford run isn't unexpected but how we respond will tell us a lot. Let's go Horns!!!

Horns hanging tough, down 52-46 with just over 6 mins to play. Imani and Nneka both in the game now, each with 3 fouls. Ogwumike also with 3 for Stanford. Love to see the Horns pull this one out!

What a dog crap 2nd half.
Multiple turnovers
Multiple travels wtf?
No energy
No intensity
Only 12 scored in first 18 min of second half.
Just a lot of stupid stupid stupid play going on.
Plonsky looks like she wants to destroy something.

Good game for the Horns, losing by single digits 63-54 to the #6 team in the country. A lot to be excited about, and a lot still to work on as well. Our guards shot a combined 7-33, or just 21%; as they continue to get better, we're going to win games like this one. But lots to feel good about with today's game, despite the second half letdown, and overall a great effort from the team.

Don't blame overseas for that second half of women's basketball that probably set the sport back 15 years. Blame the coach.

Really that was not a bad effort by Texas at all.Once again I seen some good things. But once we clean up a couple thing's, we are going to be good this year. Stanford is No.6 in the Country for a reason.I like the different size lineup's Stanford thru at us.Great for the team.Hookem'

I think the coaches did a good job. They had the team ready to play, and we led the #6 squad in the country for a good portion of the game. And after the cold spell, the Horns did their best to fight back, and kept it to single digits. It was in these situations last season that things would always go from bad to worse, but after the 13-0 Stanford run, the scoring the rest of the way was 18-14 in favor of the Cardinal. Bottom line this would have been an ugly loss for us last year. Yes I'm disappointed because I think we could have won this contest, but overall this is a much improved team. As it is, had our guards managed to shoot even 30%, we would have probably pulled this one out. The team should be proud of their effort against a very good Stanford team, and then put this game behind them and get ready for what comes next. We're on the right track.

Tale of two halves. Great first half. Great hustle. Crappy second half. Poor decisions. No energy. Absolutely no offense strategy. Still -- this is a step in the right direction. Check out the rebounding advantage by Texas. I bet that almost never happens to Stanford. If Texas just had an offense to go with its defense, we'd be something. Proud of the team. Loved how Imani came to the sideline after "The Eyes" and thanked fans for coming out. Classy. Hook 'em.
