Fairmont Hotel, Dallas

I'm in Dallas all next week on business staying at the Fairmont. Any recommendations for bars/restaurants within the vicinity? The bar and restaurant at the Fairmont is a little too pretentious for me. I like seafood, tex-mex, bar fare, and loose pretentious women.

One night, walk a block down Ross to Stephen Pyles. Yes, it's a higher-end restaurant, but the bar makes good drinks, and you can just sit at the tapas/ceviche bar or the "communal" table and eat. Good atmosphere, great food.

Primo's is not within the vicinity of the Fairmont and is not -- in my opinion -- worth the trip. Stephen Pyle's is a great suggestion. It's only a block away and if you won't want to do the big dinner, they have a tapas bar and will serve you pretty much anything from the tapas or dinner menu at the bar. Also nearby are the restaurants in One Arts Plaza. Tei An is considered one of the best new restaurants in the country. Dali Wine Bar is getting also sorts of good press and national recognition. There is Tex-Mex there at Jorge's, although I haven't been so I don't know how good it is, along with an Italian place and a high end southern place (The Screen Door, which is good, but not as good as Hatties).

Across downtown, but also walkable is Main Street. You will satisfy the "pretentious women" requirement at the Joule Hotel. The restaurant there is a Charlie Palmer place and is really good. There are also two "lounges", PM and the new poolside lounge overlooking downtown. I have not been to Poolside since it just opened but Charlie Palmer and PM are both good. There are other places along main street, including the Iron Cactus, if you want more laid back atmosphere and Tex-Mex and a few other bars that I have not been to. For Seafood, across the street -- pretty much -- from the Joule is Dallas Fish Market, a high-end seafood place. You are also walking distance from West End (Newports for old-school seafood) and Victory (Prententious women at Kinichi and at the W, Tex-Mex at a couple of places)

One Arts Restaurants

So much for staying close to The Fairmont. First night, went with pretentious girl I met at conference to Jaspers at The Shops at Legacy. Second night, same pretentiousness at the Taco Diner at Legacy.

All in all good times and a boatload of pretentious women at Legacy.

so basically you drove thirty miles each night? you know, they have a freaking taco diner in west village like 1 mile from your hotel.... with many more hot women. well, maybe about the same. but way closer. hope she was hot.

Yes she is, and more importantly, she had a very liberal expense allowance.
