Facebook question

I'm an old guy (well, at least older than most of you) using facebook. Is there a way for me to "flag" a couple of my friends so that I don't have to read about every ******* move they make or read about everything they think. There are some people that post all damn day. I don't want to "unfriend" them but I would like to be able to limit the number of times I have to read about their activities. Anyone? Anyone?

I'm an old guy too - mid 50's. But I'm up pretty much on high tech. But I don't understand all the facebook/twitter stuff. What does that give you that I don't have on my blackberry with my email being forwarded to it?

Why would gay people need it more than straight?

Honestly, I use it to communicate with old friends, especially those who no longer live nearby (or even in the country). It's kind of fun seeing who still looks good and who... looks.... different.

It's also an easy way to keep up with birthdays, which I'm horrible at.

I'm 38 and joined FB late last year. It's been a great way to reconnect with friends that I have lost touch with, and a great way to post pictures of my kids so that the grandparents can see them.

It has also been invaluable in helping plan my high school class 20 year reunion.

BigWill, you can kiss my ***. My high school reunion is being planned on facebook. I have met up with many people I have lost touch with since I graduated high school. In fact, I recently learned on facebook that a girl I have known since about 4th grade has breast cancer and I was able to donate some money to a fund to assist her. If not for facebook, I would have never known. So, in case I didn't make myself clear the first time, you can kiss my ***.

Dinosaurs and white trash ignore valuable technology for some puritan moral and male code that thinks these things are effeminate.
The sad part is...the world is passing you by and you dont even know it.

Facebook has been a real joy for me. I've been in touch with friends I have not seen or talked to in 30 years. It's great to see pictures (old and new) and to reconnect. Heck, I'm even enjoying connecting with parents of old friends who are mostly only there to see pictures of their grandkids.

I can't stand some of the "games" it has on it (drink passing games etc.), so I use the ignore button at will. Just ignore what you don't like and take advantage of the good stuff. Use the hide feature.

It's a great way to keep in touch and disseminate and receive news very quickly. Don't knock it 'til you try it.

So true on the drinks, mardi gras beads, easter eggs, hugs and other crap people pass through various apps. Just ignore. Same with friends who you don't know but initially accept b/c you have several mutuals even though you have no idea who they are. Eventually ignore those folks too.

HA!!!

Big Will, I agree with you. Anyone on FB, or anyone who does not have a 4x4, or anyone who does not own guns, or anyone not involved in MMA, etc is a ***. HA. I talk this kind of **** all the time.

However, some "kids" (now in their 30's) that I have known forever encouraged me to join FB so I could keep up with their kids and I reluctantly agreed. I could feel myself growing ovaries as I signed on. But it has been a blessing to my life. I am now in touch with friends from grade school, professors from college, watching friends kids grow up, etc. No regrets from me now. Also, if you want to watch some badass MMA fights, hook up with me on FB.

To me, it's not gay (anymore) at all. It's cool.

But to each his own.

I would hunt down bigwill and kick him right in the weiner if i knew his true identity.

FB has been awesome for me as well (41 and every bit the confident heterosexual I've always been, not that there's anything wrong with that).

HS friends, Navy shipmates, college pals & frat brothers, old co-workers. Hell 30 years of lost friends have been redeemed in the last 6 months. I'm a believer but don't have time for all those games EXCEPT...

The Loghorns Fan group. My favorite!!!

Do any of you ever ask yourselves why facebook.com is worth so much money? Hosting millions of retarded pictures is not cheap, but they have cash to burn.

OK, OK, I was just breaking balls.

If you cats dig facebook, have at it.

Hell, I was a regular visitor to Scally's webpage, so who am I to talk ****?

scally? Blast from the past.

One good thing about facebook is it can sometimes reveal someone as a douchebag that you didn't know was one.

I don't know about sexual preference being involved, but I do attribute to any guy spending a lot of time on FB the motive to match up with the girls or women on there--isn't that logical? So, my doubts are with married men who post a lot on FB. My question is, would you actually phone up someone else's wife to chat, or even exchange emails about all the little stuff going on in your life or mind? Yet, that's what basically is going on.

There are some paranoid people on this thread. I'll be 40 in a few months & use FB all the time to catch up w/ friends & family. Like others, I iniitally got involved due to a reunion that was being planned last year. Now I do everything from make golfing plans w/ my buddy when he's traveling to giving a bbq inept friend advice from 1/2 way across the country to posting pictures of current home improvement projects so my sister can check things out & get inspired (and needle her husband a bit to get moving on their house).

My wife uses FB for similar things & I might joke w/ her from time to time when she updates her status while we're headed to a movie or out to dinner but so what? At worst it's a harmless, fun distraction & at best it's a very useful communication tool.
