Is "everybody" under 28 on Facebook, and nobody over 30? I've heard this theory and my limted survey says it's true, but my data is limited. How accurate is this theory?

No - I am "over 28" and the majority of my friends and colleagues are on facebook now, including many over 30 and quite a few over 40.

Here's some data that's a bit old, but if you look at where the growth is it's in the older demographics, so you can extrapolate to what the mix may be today.

Facebook demographics

I'm over 30 and have an account. Now, I don't update it every 5 min, so that's probably a big distinction with the age groups.

I'm 40, and have a Facebook page.

However, I visit it maybe once a day or so at most - I'm not on it all day long through my cell phone (typing with my thumbs!) like a lot of the young 'uns.

I'm in my mid 30's and most of the people I know my age and older are on Facebook.

Most of the people I know under 30 are on Myspace.

As those demographics show, facebook has nearly fully penetrated the under 30 crowd and is now experiencing tremendous growth in the over 30 crowd.

My youngest Facebook friend is 18.
My oldest Facebook friend is 73.

Facebook is used by schools to get people back in touch leading up to 20 year reunions.

Facebook is used by parents of grown kids to keep up with all of the children of the kids that they watched grow up.

Facebook is used by housewives, working moms, and 30-something & 40-something women in general to ***** about the world, comment on funny things, and keep in touch with the high school friends.

Facebook is used by guys in the 30s and 40s to check out the hot girls that their single friends are dating or hanging out with.

From ~March/April of 2008 to now, I have seen an absolute explosion of people in the mid 30s to early 40s sign up on Facebook. I think the tagging of photos, the uniform page look, and the general page of viewing status updates has really drawn people in. (I don't know if MySpace does this, but they didn't in the past.)

In general, Facebook has become like cell phones. Not just for the young kids anymore.

I have a facebook account (42). I signed up for it so I could look for an old friend. No go. I have not used it in any other way and will likely never do so.

I'm 37 and just joined FB a couple of months ago (20 year reunion is in summer).

It's been fun catching up with friends I haven't seen in almost 20 years, and I check it quite a bit right now, but once my reunion is over and done with, I probably won't check it very often....

Incorrect, I'm on facebook and I'm over 35. I graduated from a small high school with only ~100 members of my graduating class. About 15% of the class is on facebook as well.

62 no facebook, no black berry, no tweeter, no cable TV, not even a cell phone except when on the road through the company. There are probably other things I don't have that I don't even realize. Boy am I out of touch.

my students all still use Myspace.

I'm about to turn 30 and use facebook. Another vote for most of my friends on it are at least 28.

I'm 36 and have an account on MySpace and Facebook. I signed up for MySpace a few years ago based on pressure from many of my friends that are the same age as me. I signed up for Facebook for the sole purpose of talking to one person who was on there, but not MySpace. In the last 4 months, almost all of my friends have gone solely to Facebook.

I have no idea what these sites are for, but I find it very easy to log in and catch up on what all of my friends are doing in about 5 minutes. I don't use any of the additional features or applications that are provided.

I'd say the youngest "friend" I have is 21 and the oldest is 52, with the median age being somewhere around 34.

34 and on it. Found a ton of friends from high school and even middle school.
Also it makes it much easier to see photos my sister and her family put up, than having to send e-mails back and forth.
