Face value

Pet peeve...here we go. What's with people trying to buy tickets, and saying "will pay face value", like that's some kind of motivation to the seller? By the time I pay Foundation dues for the "honor" of buying tickets, my cost is well above "face value." Why should I just give away my cash?

it is not supposed to be a motivation for you. they are just telling you what price they are willing to pay.

I have sold tickets for less than face for both games this year.

I "prefer" to give them to a friend who will be appreciative, and not try to beat me out of my cash. I just don't get the mind set of offering a losing transaction to a person.

What's the problem... the "face value" offer at worst gives you the information you need to avoid dealing with that buyer, if you want to get more.

The giving them away idea to a friend/family member is the best to avoid the hassle of selling process.

Face value doesn't vary enough from game to game. For some of the games we have, you've found someone either very naive or not very frugal if you sell the tickets for face value or above.

Since they are looking to buy tickets, they probabaly don't have season tickets and don't know all the other extra costs one has to pay in order to buy season tickets.

I can see both sides. On the one hand, the buyer is telling you what they are willing to pay, and if you don't like that, then you don't have to deal with them.

On the other hand, people who buy season tickets, in general, also have other expenses associated with Longhorn Foundation. So face value isn't the true amount paid for that ticket, and if someone says they are willing to pay face value, then that means they are offering less than you paid for the ticket, although they might not know or understand that.

When I have extras, I usually let my friends know that they can purchase them from me at face value. That is a small loss for me, but I am willing to take the loss so that a friend can gain access to the game. I make this offer regardless of whether the game is a dog (Florida Atlantic, North Texas, etc.) or a really big game (Ohio State, A&M, etc.). My friends have pointed out to me that they can buy the tickets for less than face on the open market for the dog games, and I respond that they would pay a lot more than face for the big games. I don't attempt to make a profit off my friends in the case of big games, and I don't expect them to try to rip me off for less than I paid for the dog games.

And then there are also times when I choose to give away extras to my family members or out-of-town visitors.

seein as how HUGE of a buyer's market the first two games have been and how many FS posts there are for this arky game.... saying you will pay face is a reasonable offer. its probably over offering the way it looks now. this endzone addition has really turned DKR into a full on buyers market.

this week, throw on the ACL factor, the day time kickoff, and the ABC coverage and i am not expecting to pay over 30-40$ on gameday if i even have to wait that long. Ticketcity has tix for 50$ and its only tuesday.

I don't understand how this confuses you. There are many times that sellers are lucky to get face value for their tickets- buyers don't give a **** what you paid for them. If the market is such that there are plenty of tickets available for face or less, then that's what they're going to pay- no matter how many hidden costs were involved by the time the tickets got into your hand/inbox.

The reverse is also true on different days.

I understand "the system", but it's still, as I said, a pet peeve. Similar to people standing on the corner with a cardboard sign.

Thanks bluto, but I've already given away 4 Arkie tix to friends. I need the other 2. I'll keep you in mind next time I'm lighting cigars with hundred dollar bills.

You could just tell them what your definition of "face value" is.

You know if you don't sell them , you don't get jack, right?

Yeah, but at least AIG would ******** you into thinking you were going to "buy low, sell high." "Face value" offers don't even attempt to ********...they just say up front, "I'm going to take your money, and while we're at it...bend over."

wow, if face is bending you over, what does my offer from above do to you?

and like the guy above me said... the true value is whatever the hell somebody pays for them. and when you look around on this site and others, face-100$ per is reserved for yd line lower level seats. face on anything else is'nt getting many bites... if any at all.

you give someone a donation and you expect other people to refund your donation?

it's called a donation. would you rather it be called a fee?

folks should say they pay a fee to the foundation as opposed to saying they donate.

I've given tickets away and I've sold for face value. I've only asked for more than face once, and that was for an OU game.

For the record, I don't smoke cigars, but I enjoy burning $100 bills just for fun.
