Extended Stay Hotels (Dallas)

Family and I are spending a week in Dallas (June 28th-July 5th). Normally, we just get a hotel because we're only there 2 days at a time. I'm under the impression that - considering the amount of time we'll be there - an extended stay hotel may be the best option. I'm basing this on the fact that most hotels are at least $80 a night. 80 times 7 is 560.

I've never stayed at an extended stay hotel before. I did notice, however, that many advertise (billboards) weekly rates as low as $199 per week here in Knoxville.

What is the best route that can be taken to get an extended stay hotel in or around the Garland/Richardson area? Priceline? Hotels.com? Something else?

Thanks in advance...

MANY years ago (late '80s), some family came to town and stayed at an extended stay hotel just off LBJ (I-635) b/n Preston & Hillcrest. (South Side of the highway.)

That's not exactly Richardson/Garland, but if you hop on LBJ, you can get to Garland or North Richardson (via I-75/ Central Expressway) quickly or if you drive north on Hillcrest to get to Richardson as well.

Can't remember the name, but I think that it had "Suites" in it. It wasn't a name that you had heard of though. Good luck.

There's a Studio 6 at Central just north of Forrest that came out to $33/night at the weekly rate for 1 person. Free WiFi too.

I work for Hilton. I just checked on our Homewood Suite property at greenville and 635, it is $129 a night. I know there is a studio six on 75 and Forest, and there is also one of those Extended Stay America hotels over off greenville and 635 as well.

The problem you are going to have is that most of the discount extended stay hotels can be in somewhat non desirable locations. Not to mention that your discount extended stay hotels will have a LOT of undesirable tenants. Not real family hotels.

It might cost a little more, but your piece of mind might be worth it.

Stay away from those $199/week specials..most are just flop houses for people who can't get an apartment. Unless the property has good management, it can get kinda crappy around there.

I suggest Homewood Suites, Residence Inn and Townplace Suites..costs a lil bit more, but much nicer.

I'd start at priceline and you can probably find a decent deal there.

if you dont mind not knowing the exact location of the hotel, do priceline (if you are familiar with it) or hotwire. you will get to select a certain area your hotel will be located in.

I got it. I started researching last night and actually found a hotel with better rates than many of the extended stays. As mentioned above, I didn't realize the extended stays don't work very well for families. Though, we don't plan on being in the room that much, we need more than 4 square feet of space.
Thanks for the feedback.
p.s. The online service we used - can't remember which one since my wife booked the trip - offers a $50 gas card with reservation. By July, this'll be worth $100.
