Exile on Main Street

Thanks for that post BigWill. Very interesting article. I hope the film airs in the US. One of my favorite albums by my favorite band. Didn't know that Gram Parsons (another of my favorites) was around during the Exile period.

I like "Sticky Fingers" more myself, but "Exile On Main Street" is cool.

There's certainly lots of recorded Stones material to choose your likes or dislikes from.

I've seen them seven times over the years and at first dug them much, much, much more than The Beatles.

Now it's pretty much of a toss up for me, depending on my listening mood.

The Stones big five (IMO-in no particluar order)
1. Aftermath
2. Let It Bleed
3. Exile On Main Street
4. Sticky Fingers
5. Beggars Banquet

Can't really go wrong with any of the above. Kinda of like naming your favorite Beatles or Bob Dylan album.

My Stones list was in no particular order because it is hard to say which is the best. I agree that Aftermath probably falls to #5.

Now not to hijack the tread, but......

If you are a Dylan fan, these five consecutive albums are pretty amazing and makes it difficult to pick his "best" album:
1) Another Side of Bob Dylan
2) Bringing It All Back Home
3) Highway 61 Revisited
4) Blonde On Blonde
5) John Wesley Harding
add: Blood On the Tracks

Buckhorn, do you not like any of the post-Judas era Dylan (when he went electric)? While not all of his stuff "rocks", he has many songs that I think fit the bill (Subterranean Home Sick Blues, Like A Rolling Stone, Tombstone Blues, Highway 61 Revisited, All Along the Watchtower-played Hendrix style now, Hurricane, etc.). On a good night, Dylan and his band can still bring it live musically, even if his vocals are shot (Austin City Limits being a notable exception). He has had some amazing musicians play with him including: all of the Band (Robbie Robertson, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel, Rick Danko, Levon Helm), guitarist Mike Bloomfield, Al Kooper, guitarist John Hammond, and Charlie Sexton.

BigWill,

Show me where I said Pet Sounds was the best album ever recorded.

Guess what? You can't, because I've never said that.

IMO, the best album ever recorded is Every Good Boy Deserves Favour.

So there.

Never really have been much of a Stones fan. For me, the best album ever recorded is "Sgt Pepper's ...", followed closely by "Revolver".

I also was never a big Beach Boys fan, but I can appreciate "Pet Sounds" for what it is.

Finally! Someone else who doesn't care for the Eagles or Bruce Springsteen! I find their music pedestrian at best.
