If you get a chance to replay the video presentation of today's recruiting press conference,... following the players' video--- Mack commented on the viability of red shirting regards player interest in school, etc.

Something I've been waiting to hear for years. Thanks, Coach Brown for giving this some thought.

EDIT... The link I gave is not working now.... see links provided below by future posters.

that was a very informative press conference.

Mack is getting more and more comfortable in his job and the coach speak is wearing off some.

He seems not so defensive and very confident that he is doing the right thing and the results on the field are backing his play.

I enjoyed the hell out of it.

I can't get it to play...I install the Silverlight thing but when I refresh it just keeps wanting to install the program again. I reclicked your link and it just took me to a page with an empty white box.

The video is no longer available. I tried to restart it (as I had left the page open). I saw it live as it was being telecast. I'm not familiar with the system to know if they will put it up as an archive (maybe it's a license thing).

What Mack said after the Players' Video, had to do with red shirting. I'll try to say in my words what I remember, so don't hold me to it exactly....

He said that redshirt players often don't do as well in school. The ones who play early (have the shirt off) stay excited and interested -- and I took that to mean both in playing and working out, and in school, and in the whole school year put together.

He said if a player is good they probably leave after three years anyway. He said they are going to look into the area of red-shirting in terms of what it takes to give the players the most focused and contributing way of being here.

That fit in with my thinking. I've always thought that the best thing for any high-level athlete is to never take a full year off. Get them fully in the game, fully participating, and involved. Because if they are that good, then they do not want to just take a year off.

I'm hoping that the recruiting press conference will soon be available for replay. It was worth it to watch the players' video and hear what Mack had to say.

The entire conference said a lot about how this program treats recruiting. I am extremely proud of the attitude here, and can't imagine a player not wanting to be a part of what this program has to offer and how it respects commitment and desire.
