EX-DIL in ICU

Earlier this week we found out our Ex-DIL was in the hospital following a car accident - they told us she had run off the road into a field in our neighborhood (she lives a mile or so from us). She was in the ICU semicomatose with bleeding in her brain, and that her liver had shut down.

A day or so later, they (her mom) told us she had improved a bit - that the bleeding had stopped and her liver was starting to function again. Plus she could answer a few questions.

However she is not doing so well today, her liver has shut down again and she cannot open her eyes - she is incoherent again for most of the time. The doctors say she hopefully will be going to a rehab hospital in a few days, then from there she will have to go to a nursing care facility...as she will not be able to care for herself.

What adds to these disturbing developments is that the doctors determined her extensive injuries - severe bruising around her head, shoulders, back, and other areas - were a result of an assault and not the car accident, since she just rolled her car into a field in the neighborhood (the car was undamaged). So the police detectives are investigating. Her mother suspects it was Ex-DIL's new boyfriend, whom she had kicked out of her house a month ago. Ex-DIL cannot remember anything about what happened.

If that is true, I hope the ******* responsible gets his *** beaten as badly as she was...then locked up for a lot of years. Any guy who beats a woman like that is no man at all.

And no, my son can't be a suspect, as he was at home with his wife and both our twin grandkids.

This is devastating our twin grandkids. Good thoughts and prayers for her and them will be appreciated.

Agreed on men beating up women (and/or children for that matter). Amazing that someone can keep hitting to the point that causes that much damage.

Hope everything turns out for the best.

Did her injuries cause the accident? I.e. did she black out?

The docs say she is severely brain damaged, so they do not know if she will ever recover. Of course they are probably going with the worst case scenario.

Ex-DIL was moved out of ICU to a lesser lever of care today, so it looks like she isn't going to die. at the present time. She hasn't awaken yet - just has mumbled about 20 words all week.
 
How very sad, I feel for your ex-DIL, and your son, and everyone else in her extended family. She has my prayers.

Another update - She slipped into a deep coma early this morning and her brain started swelling this afternoon. A neurosurgeon is on call to drill a hole in her head to relieve that problem if needed.

This looks pretty bad.

I wanted to wait to chime in till things got hopefully happy. My thoughts and good juju has been sent all along.
 
I'm keeping her -- and your family -- in my prayers. Can you tell me her first name?

And I hope that whoever beat her up is given a similar experience ... somewhere, someday.
 
I have a daughter. I cannot possibly fathom what you are feeling.

The neurosurgeon removed a section of her skull to relieve the swelling pressure a few days ago. It appears to have worked, and she has opened her eyes some - also responded to my grandkids when they walked into see her. Even if she can't form any words (except "hey") yet, at least she can recognize family members.

It was mighty hard and emotional for the twins, but they are happy she will live.

No word on the sheriff's investigation yet, except that they are building a case against an individual.
