Evil Roy losing weight

Greg Ellis commented in the DMN about Roy working out alone and separate from the rest of the players in the off season. Supposedly he gets to Valley Ranch around 3, or 4 in the morning and is leaving when the other players arrive at around 7 am.

" tired of all criticism he was getting for being fat."

He should be tried of being the most over-rated player in the NFL or getting burned every other play. That guy making the pro bowl is a disgrace.

He was decent his first year or two when he was mainly doing run stopping and defending the short pass. But now that he's been helping in the secondary he is truly atrocious.

Roy was a terrific football player for the first couple of years. Guys around the NFL have consistently voted him to the pro bowl. I'm not sure what the problem is now -- scheme, weight, confidence, the horse-collar rule -- but he's been struggling. I for one hope he pulls it together or finds and role where he can shine again. I, for one, anm tired of listening the all the criticsm. I remember when Charlie Waters played cornerback for the cowboys. He wasn't very good at it, but become a terric safety later in his career. I'm not sure how much the criticism bothered him, but it was about as incessant as what I'm hearing about Roy Williams now.

I've heard that he has knocked 2, or 3 full seconds off of his forty time since the weight loss, so we'll just have to wait and see.

It seems like everything went downhill after that one Monday Night football game against the Redskins where he gave up 2 TDs to Santana Moss back to back in the last 2 or 3 minutes of the game.

this is all you need to know about Roy:

"I will admit that at times, when I had one-on-one situations and you're head up on a tight end or a receiver that can go left or right, it's tough," he said. "I mean, it's just tough. Sometimes you just hope they don't throw the ball your way, because sometimes you're like, if they go inside, you don't have any help; if they go outside, you don't have any help.

"That's why corners get paid the big bucks."

Roy at linebacker at his usual playing weight would be fine from the muscle standpoint. He brings a load to the collision a lot of linebackers would wish for. But if he's down to 205-215 area he'd get killed. Learning to play a new position at his age may be too much.

Waters was out of place at corner, but just because he sucked at that position didn't destroy his confidence when he moved to safety. But he moved early in his career and he and the coaches always new his natural position was safety. Roy's quote and the weight loss say a lot about Roy's frame of mind and it's concerning to hear. I hope he gets it together because as rough as last year was for him, he's the second best safety on the Cowboys roster and most downs you need two of those guys on the field.

The DMN reported in a follow up story that the defensive coaches called Williams in for a meeting to re-affirm his commitment to the team after the Ellis comments and after Roy missed a teaching session to attend a charity event. Apparently the meeting cleared the air - at least for the time being.

I like this part of the interview better....

"People will say Roy is really not making any big hits. Ever since I rededicated my life to God, OK, I haven't been making the big hits, but we got further than we ever did when I was living of the world. When I rededicated my life, you know what I'm saying, God showed me that you don't have to live of the world and I will bless you. He has basically overflown my cup. He has shown me so much."

wtf?
