Evident to me

Agree 100% i wonder if he took a head shot today. Seemed foggy with some decisions and not making usual read progressions in 2nd half

He made throws, he missed some reads. He did not take off because TCU kept a spy on every play. The run lanes were not open. I think he missed Eagles.

Overthrew, underthrew, threw ahead, threw behind, stared down receivers for seconds....he was all over the place. All of this same stuff happened against Kansas and OU too. 22 of 48 with 4 interceptions is not missing some reads. Something is very wrong or different and Sam is just not the same.

He’s had some rib issues for a few weeks and that may be a part of it or it may be the stress of “Sam will bail us out....”

Ingram and RoJo try but our formula for victory ashamedly lies in Sams hands - all opponents know this. If they account for Sam we are in trouble. I blame the OC for not scheming more creative.

:arrow-up:
I think the Cat is out of the bag now! DC’s know how to attack us and win. We can be shut down. Pretty much same thing on defense. Schemes and rigid ideology for the original scheme is probably causing players to play into the opponents hands. No or few adjustments. Players see it. And they get upset about it. Sam probably feels like the only adult in the room at times.
:bevo:

He is just not an accurate thrower. He is a good enough QB but he isn't elite at throwing. He is also not remotely the problem of this team. That is defense and offensive staff. They don't really know how to attack the weaknesses of a defense. The offensive structure is okay. But they aren't elite and they are slow to recognize new wrinkles on defense.

Sam will be fine. He just had a bad day. I don’t know if it was the ribs, a hit to the head during one of his runs, the fact that Patterson outmaneuvered us (what a shock, right?) or all the above. But in two weeks I’ll bet that he will be back to his elite self.

I don't assume anything at this point.

Any assumption that Sam will be back or the defense will be fixed, etc is wishful thinking.

The facts are the trajectory of this team is pointing way down and Sam's performance has been affected.

You do realize in two weeks we play the team that handed OU a loss ? The same OU that man-handled us in Dallas. KSU is gonna beat us worse than they beat OU. Then the real butt-kicking start with three offenses that can light it up. We are going 0-5 to finish the year...Herman always talks about FINISHING...well we gonna FINISH alright. 5-7 finished and at home for bowl season.

Maybe Sam's performance affected the team as well. On the pick where he tried to hit #16, he shouldn't have thrown the ball. #16 was not open when he threw it and Sam had nothing but green grass/turf in front of him for 15+ yards...Should have run for a first down. On one other pick he should have thrown it away. I think the coaches have coached his instincts away.
The WR coaches don't teach these guys how to run routes to get open. #6 was crossing the face of the defender on the first pick and should have continued his route. #16 has to continue across the face of the defender and he would have been open and would have forced the defender to come through him to the ball. WE don't run to open grass. That is why nearly all our passes are contested instead of being wide open like our opponent's WRs usually are.
We are trying to turn Sam into a pocket passer, which he is not. Our WR coach is a checkers player in a chess game. Our run game is senseless.
We all know what is wrong with our defense.....3-3-5 and useless late blitzes.
The scheme is being exposed when the talent level isn't elite, and OCs have figured out what to do to it.

I disagree. The fun is gone for Sam. And this offense hasn't a chance without him being Superman every game. Probably why he isn't having fun anymore. The regression of this offensive line is shocking, and that is an understatement. Can't blame their suckitude on injuries.

The regression of this offensive line is shocking,
yes!

how does a 3 man pass rush pressure a QB in the shotgun in under 3 seconds?

I think, especially with the 3 man rush, the pocket retreats FAR too quickly. Recall years ago we were having issues with punt blocks ... because there was literally ZERO resistance, the line was retreating as fast as the rush was ON ... even when there wasn't a "block" by the opponent. the line would have provided more resistance if they'd just laid down requiring the rush to step over 'em.

I don't know the finer points of creating a pocket ... but the results speak for themselves.

As @Monahorns said ... the vector is DISASTROUS. And while I had hopes for Herman/staff at this point last year. I'm no longer so hopeful. Shall we start a consecutive decade of mediocrity? ugh.

Sam is not a homerun threat... Our running game is meh...DL can simply back their ears and come get Sam. that is how they can crush the pocket so easily.

As far as starting another decade of mediocrity..... Well, Sam said,"We're Baaaaack !! Must have been what he meant.

meh ... there have been some great shots of 40-50 yards downfield to Duvernay, CJ, Eagles ... Smith. Sam was off in Ft. Worth, but not BAD off. Some of that may simply have been well coached/motivated/hard-playing defense ... beyond themselves.

Remember, no one overlooks Texas. Texas gets the A-game .... and sometimes even the unconscious game of all opponents.

Texas on the other hand ... in recent years ... is known to play-down. That's a bad combo.

I agree. TCU made adjustments at half to stop the run. Ingram had some nice runs in the first half but nothing in the 2ns half. I think our OL has gone downhill lately. False starts and holding did not occur early but have been a problem again lately.

What are you trying to say?
