Everest guide Dave Hahn ( or "Super Dave", as his fellow Taos Ski Patrol buddies call him) is shooting for his 11th ascent of Mt. Everest.
This guy is awesome...a couple of years ago, some film crew walked by an exhausted climber..they basically left her to die. Dave got her off the mountain even though he was exhausted from his summit bid. Everest rescue.

Check out the latest dispatches here.

Go Super Dave!!

I find it funny that we hear about these white folk, meanwhile the Sherpa's are the real badasses of these trips. 27 sherpas for 5 guides.

I'm just pissed that there won't be a Discovery channel program this year because the Chinese shut down the North side of the mountain last year. Brice and his Himex team are climbing the south side this year. Khumbu Icefall holla!!

Yeah, it's a vast racist conspiracy. Perhaps it is people admiring the feats of others that more closely resemble them, more readily than those of another race, who live at altitude, relatively, and have for generations, enough generations to have benefited, to some degree, from natural selection. But no, it's probably stone cold racism at bottom.

To be clear: "I'm just saying...." THIS IS WHAT YOU JUST SAID: "That is a pretty good example of racism."

You.have.got.to.be.kidding!

People are drawn to what they know, and it is human nature to compare oneself to persons who seem most similar, outwardly and otherwise. To argue the contrary is simply specious. To argue that doing so makes one "racist" (your word now-you bought it from me) is beyond the pale of reason.

People familiar with or fascinated by climbing take for granted the superiority of the sherpas' abilities in these endeavors. The climbers I (and most other non-professional climbers in the West) am most fascinated by are the ones who seem most like me, have days jobs here, and work hard to spend the bulk of their time climbing or actually make a living at it. They are who we most readily relate to, thus we are drawn to their stories. Not one of the professionals mentioned above would contest the Nepalese' superiority in all things climbing.

As fiercely competitive as most of the pros are, however, they're not competing with the sherpas, but sizing themselves up against those persons most familiar to them in the climbing community, i.e. others from the West, others speaking the same native tongue, others from 1st world countries, and, only lastly, the undisputed champs, the ones they'd most likely pale in comparison to, the sherpas.

But yes, I believe the white race is undoubtedly superior in all respects, and being more interested in a climber who I have more in common with, than with any sherpa, certainly proves that. I think you'd benefit from some fresh, clean mountain air

Setting up straw men there, fellow. No one here is arguing with you about the sherpas' talent and skill. Now calling me a racist, yes, we can argue about that.

It states that Dave Hahn has reached the summit of Everest more times than any-non Sherpa in history....so who is the official record-holder? Why doesn't the website mention who it is (Apa: I think he has done it 19 times)?

On May 16, 2007, Apa Sherpa climbed Everest for the 17th time—breaking his own record for the highest number of successful Everest summits. Apa started climbing Everest since 1989.
