even MORE adware / pop-up help needed

All right computer guys, for the first time I can remember, my laptop is being destroyed by pop-ups, and not by hornfans. I can deal with two or three from here. I'm talking about going to sleep last night with all my browsers closed and waking up with 38 IE windows open. All kinds of weird pop-ups, (non-porn) and only a few were asking to install things.

The strange thing is (hope this helps me fix it), that I use Yahoo/SBC DSL and use their browser, but the regular IE is still on my computer, and that's where all these pop-ups are coming from. The hornfans ones pop up thru my SBC browser, but that's it.

I have and have run Adaware, Spybot, and others frequently mentioned here, but this doesn't seem like adware, but a different problem. I've never gotten so many damn pop-ups.

Suggestions? I have a couple of sites that I regularly use that I need pop-ups for, so an all out pop-up killer may not work for me.

Help. This is annoying.

Just guessing, but the yahoo/dsl browser (if its anything like Roadrunner) is still IE, but just has their own icons on it to make it look like theirs. Also, you might try sorting your program files folder by date and check and see what's been added recently and get rid of it. This worked for me when i had a similar problem adaware didn't catch.

It really doesn't sound like a "adware" problem. It sounds like a browser hijack problem.

Two things I would recommend when your browser starts going nuts. 1. CWShredder and 2. Hijack This

Both are freeware - CWShredder will scan and fix. Hijack This takes some work on your part to recognize some bad files. There's no other way.

I use PopUp Stopper Free Edition from Panicware and the Google toolbar and I haven't had a popup in months...PopUp Stopper has a function that still allows popups when you need them - just hold the Ctrl Key
