Evaporative Cooling

What are the hangups of installing industrial size evaporative cooling systems in football stadiums? Isn't there someway to ring the frickin stadium with these things to bring down the temp? There wouldnt be any $ benefit to the project, but it sure would make the game more enjoyable during those breezeless, 100 degree games in September.

To answer the question seriously: Evaporative coolers don't work very well where the humidity is high. That's why you don't see them much in central Texas.

I have a much easier answer. Night games! We already have all the equipment necessary. In the old days a day game prior to the State Fair was extremely rare. There's a good reason for this.

If we could reduce all the hot air that comes out of Gadzillatron during play stoppages it would be a lot cooler and even less earsplitting headaches.

You know what evaporative cooling is around here? Indoor showers, everywhere. Water condenses on the ceiling and rains on you while you are sleeping. I rented a summer residence in Austin as a student that had that diabolical indoor irrigation system. I woke up in a moderate rain event.
It works OK in arid desert conditions, I suppose.

They tried installing evaporative cooling on the Longhorn network and it wasn't as cool as they thought. It just started evaporating.

The old swamp cooler kept our little grad student hovel icey cold in Lubbock. Wouldn't do jack in Austin because of the humidity, an it is nasty.
