There is a GREAT new Cajun place in far south Austin. It is off Brodie about 1/2 mile south of William Cannon.

I went to that Sambets place and trust me, this place is much better + the service people were not rude ******* like they were at Sambets. The Oyster Po Boy was HUGE and only about 4 bucks. The Chicken and sausage gumbo used a REALLY dark roux for a base which gave it a very smoky and full bodied flavor.

Plus they give you hommade potato chips.

I definetly plan to go back....

oh yeah, here is a chronicle review in case you are interested:The Link

I will definitely give it a try. I have been pretty regular at Cypress Grill at William Cannon/Mopac ever since they opened, so I may have to start splitting my time.

Awesome, thanks GB. It is a trek to get there but hey, worth it if it is as good as you say. Etouffe is what I am craving. But Gumbo w/ some crackers is nice too.

I went there the first week it was open and it was not too good. True the people are nice and the chips with dip is good but the food is bland. I ordered the seafood platter with all the different types of seafood. First the salad that was brought out was very wilted, brown and warm. The red beans and rice had no flavor at all. I hate to say it but popyes red beans and rice puts theirs to shame. The platter was ok but nothing to write home about. Maybe it was just since they had just opened, I might try it again in a month or two. Let me know what you guys think about it.

Brodie Lane is one of my primary passages into Austin from central Hays County, so I thought I'd give this place a try. Enjoyed the homemade chips, then had a cup of red beans & rice - solid, but needed more flavor. The Crawfish Evangeline (their signature dish, crawfish in sauce on pasta) was delicious. I'll be going back.
