Evangeline Cafe is located on Brodie Lane, south of William Cannon across the street from the Valero gas station. Has anyone been?

My mom found it and took my dad and I a couple weeks ago. It was pretty good. What are y'alls opinions?

They also have live music pretty much all week long.

Evangeline Cafe

i like it. i've had the poboys, gumbos and etoufee and was very happy and will definitely continue to go back.

there's another cajun place not too far away called cypress grill which is good too and you may want to check out if you like evangeline. they both have more extensive menus than sambet's, but sambet's always seems more down home and authentic. my folks have lived in nola for a long time. i have had some really solid gumbo at evangeline.

i wish i lived closer to evangeline and cypress so i could eat there for dinner and branch out more, but i work south and live north central so those two places are a hard sell for dinner. you made a good find.

I like Evangeline Cafe. I don't like Cypress Grill. I think they're food is overpriced for the serving sizes you get there.

I also really like Sambet's and Ms. B's.

i liked evangeline...it's pretty good. i had their boudin and etoufee, which was nice and spicy. cypress grill is not good...at least not the night i went. the roux in their etoufee was not spicy at all, and it had the color and consistency of brown gravy you'd put on a salisbury steak. i'm guessing it had too much flour, and it might have been canned. they asked me if i "wanted to jazz it up" with some powder, but i still had to put a ton of hot sauce on it. the bottom line is, if your roux sucks, you can't have a good cajun restaurant.

does anyone know of a good cajun place around austin that serves barbecue shrimp? i'm not talking about the candied ones they do at shoal creek...those aren't bad...however, i'm talking about pascal's manale-style, swimming in a sea of butter. i have one hell of a recipe, but it would be nice to know where i could get them on a whim.

Good to hear people like it. The only time I went, I got fried crawfish. I love those.

Next time I'm thinking about getting Crawfish Evangeline and some stuffed pistolettes. Those deep fried french rolls are great plain, so I thought I'd get some with cheese and shrimp.

sure thing! i'll send you the recipe as soon as i get home. as for the shrimp, the new chinatown market on north lamar (near braker) sells head-on shrimp of all sizes.

Our pediatrician's office for the 21 month old version of the sig photo is right across the parking lot to the L of Evangeline's; the wife & I have been there about 4x & they're always nice to Little Tex.

We usually do the lunch thing & the Po Boys are 'back home' to this here escapee from Lousy-Anna. I've never had the dinners, but one of these days...

They do have the live music thing going on & the bands & people they list are some of the better Austin - Centric players around. Take that as a decent reference, IMO.
