Evacuating

So I live in the Beaumont/Pt. Arthur area and with Gustav a couple of days away, I need some evacation suggestions. Where should my wife and I go? Looking for someplace fun. Last time we evacuated for Rita, we went to her relatives in Dry Prong, La. It was quite possibly the longest 2 weeks of my life (we stayed with her family at her uncle's, the Baptist preacher).

Ozarks in Arkansas. It will be a bit cooler up there.

Rockort/Port Aransas/Corpus are closer but you risk an unexpected turn to the south by Gustav.

I was over there this morning. First of all, you have to go where you can find a hotel room. I was told that Texarkana was filling up and that the Austin area was full.

Dallas was the best choice for most during Rita.

You might consider San Antonio, Port A, Corpus.

Garden spots like Waco, Temple, Bryan, Norman, Lawton are likely already full. You know the tour buses all stop there.

If you like to gamble, Sam's Town in Shreveport will likely get 75 mph winds and lots of rain, but they have $70 rooms, which are really nice.

Ended up not even leaving Beaumont. Stayed at a buddy's house (4 of us) and had a great time. Grilled and played poker all week. This time however, it looks more ominous down here. Heading to Austin this time, and can hopefully score a couple of tickets to the UT-piggy game. Can't wait.

Stupid hurricane. Now it projects to head right to Austin. Guess I have to cancel my reservations and look elsewhere. This sucks.

By the time it gets to Austin, it will be a TS at most. I am not saying the weather will be fine, but it won't be near as bad as the coast. It looks like the storm will be fast moving.

I was at West Point last Thursday through Sunday and got the leftovers from Hannah. It poured for about 5 straight hours Saturday afternoon/night, but by the next day it was bright and sunny with most of the flooding subsided.

I expect that Austin will have 30-40 mph winds with 70+ mph gusts by kickoff, not to mention rain that will make us forget that Missouri game a few years back. Austin and areas east could get 10+ inches of rain.

If we paly, I'll be there because my seats will be dry and my it might be easier to sell my extra tickets. I think we'll all be back in Austin on the 27th.

This is gonna be a long vacation. I'm evacuated with my wife in the French Quarter, but it looks like we won't be able to go home (Nederland, Tx) for about a month due to Ike. Thank goodness that our house did not get flooded like alot of others in the area. I've had fun so far though over here, but I can only party for so long.
