Eva Cassidy

Anybody else ever heard of this phenomenal singer who died way too young?

Her name was Eva Cassidy and she had the amazing ability to break your heart with every one of her songs.

Here are just two of them. I hope you give them an honest listen.

First, Autumn Leaves, recorded live just after she learned that she had three months to live. When she sings "Soon I'll hear old winter's song" I almost cry:

Beautiful. Fields of Gold was especially fine, what a soft touch she has on her voice. I have never heard of her, glad you posted this.

Eva's version of Autumn Leaves, which is a classic song, is far and away the best I have ever heard!

She had a great voice and a real feel for singing blues!

ive got some of her stuff on my ipod. her version of curtis mayfield's people get ready is one of my favorite versions of that song. it is one of my favorite songs and has been covered by just about everyone. i watched that abc piece. it was very good and moving. i did not know she was so well known in the UK.

Agreed. Listening to her version, it somehow seems honest instead of trite. The surprising thing is that, when re-listening to Lauper's versions, I have more respect for the music. Not as good as Eva's, but good. The lyrics don't seem corny anymore. Instead of assuming it was crafted strictly to sell by tear-jerking teenage girls, it feels sincere now because Eva made it so.

Wow, that segment kicked my ***! I can't believe I've never heard of her before until now.
I listen to a lot of music every day by all kinds of people, good and bad. She was unbelievable talented. Even her live performances were so great. She is flawless and pure when she sings. So glad I found this thread!
