eudora/outlook question

i've been using eudora for my mail.utexas account for about three years now. until recently, i never had any problems, but for the past month or two i've been unable to send email-- it gives me a connection timeout error. i have both my outgoing and incoming mail servers set as mail.utexas.edu, and mail comes in just fine--it just won't send. any ideas?

on that note, i have been contemplating switching to outlook for sometime and was wondering if anyone had any advice on that. my biggest beef with eudora is that i can't minimize it to the system tray and have it alert me when i get new email-- i have to open the program periodically, which I often forget to do. Will outlook run from my system tray so that I get my emails immediately?

Thanks in advance.

If you are off-campus, change your outgoing server to your ISP's SMTP. Supposedly, they started blocking off-campus outgoing traffic on mail.utexas.edu server two years ago, but some people can still use it.

Although you can't minimize Eudora to the tray, you can minimize it to the taskbar and it will display an icon in the tray whenever a new message comes in.

You do have it running to check mail every x minutes, right?

thanks for the help, i think the outgoing mail thing will fix it. just got to find what it is for grande...

i have it set to check every 10 minutes, i am just OC about my taskbar sometimes and hate having it cluttered.

check your outgoing setting with whatever ISP you use. i have a mail.utexas.edu email account, but since i use it off campus using my TW road runner, my outgoing mail setting is different from incoming because it has to be routed through time warner to get anywhere. i think it is "smtp-server.austin.rr.com" or something like that.
