Etiquette Dilemma at DKR

What to do about this? My wife and I have been blessed to have north end zone seasons seats for the past two seasons. Like most of y'all there is almost nowhere we would rather be than at DKR. The problem is we have this guy two rows behind us that gets all pissed off and yells at us almost everytime we stand up. I would prefer to stand the entire game but sit a lot because this loser is on our case. He has a loud, obnoxious, drunk wife which would be ok except she is also ugly. Any suggestions?

I really think you should consider your neighbors when attending an event. I understand your desire to stand for the entire game, but does your action adversely affect others' enjoyment of the event? In this case it does. Unfortunately for you, your action causes a neighbor to react in a much more less friendly way than you already have.

I think if you want to stand the entire time, you should ask the foundation/ticket office to move you to a section where standing is more acceptable. Are those of us that prefer not to stand the entire game any less of a fan because of our preference? I don't think we are. Personally I think standing the entire game is very "aggyish" and inconsiderate. When the HORNS aren't involved in an event that you attend, do you stand the entire time? If not, then try considering the people that sit around you at DKR. In the section I sit in, we stand at the appropriate times and no one complains when we do.

This subject has been debated on this board for years. There will never be a resolution. However, if folks would just be considerate of their neighbors and not think that they are the only people in a 100K seat stadium, the debate would never have started.

Either get everyone in the section to stand or move to a section that stands the whole game. The only person that feels good about you standing is you. You're not helping the team or the stadium personel by standing the whole game.....you're just making at least 1 couple mad. It is irrelevant that he yells or that his wife doesn't meet your standards.

BurntOrangeGuy nailed it, politely.
The seats are there for a reason. If people want to sit, they should should have a reasonable expectation to be able to sit and see the game. They paid for their seats
.

If you want to stand the whole game, go where other people are standing. There is a ton of room to stand at the "GAP", between the upper north end zone and the upper west deck.

or wedge yourself into the student section where most stand the whole game. no one pays attention to seat numbers in that section anyway.

I sit next to chronic high fivers in my section. I relunctantly acquiesce & give them high fives after big plays. Just got to get along with your season ticket mates.

I have seats very low to the field... for the past two years...

There is a group of four that sits down and to the left of me by one row. They stand the whole game... kind of annoying, but I get it... and it only interferes with my view about 10% of the game... when that happens I stand up.

Last year the couple behind me apparently sold their tickets with an ad that said, only ******** need apply...

For one of the games... the guy in the seats behind us starts yelling at the group in front of us literally at kick off.

He is calling them Aggies, he is calling them inconsiderate... He is calling them other nasty names...

I politiely say at some point... Hey, they do this every game. They aren't gonna sit... so might as well relax.

then for part the game, the actions shifts so that the standers are right in front of me... with the sitters right behind.

The asshoile starts yelling at me and my wife... I ignore him for a bout a minute, then I say... look, even if I sit down, you won't be able to see over these folks in front of me... so you might as well stand up.

This makes it worse, he keeps yelling...

Another minute goes by...

I say, hey ******* come on down here... He says I don't any trouble (like I am gonna fight him)... I say no ****. we are switching seats... you can yell at these ******** and I can yell in your ear till they sit down? Sound fair..?

He declines my invite... I say okay fine... if youre notcoming down here and fix the problem yourself, then your gonna stop scremaing at me and my wife.

Not another peep.

Man do I hate it when that happens.

Stand for the Eyes of Texas, National Anthem, when the team enters the stadium, and for exciting plays. Otherwise sit down. If this guy gets upset with that then he has a problem. If you want to stand for the entire game, move. Besides there is no reason you need to be standing for timeouts, and off tackle dive plays during a 4th quarter blow out.

Or since this guy sits behind you, next time he complains, offer to switch seats.

"Sitters" make way less noise than "Standers". I want the football stadium filled with noise makers.

Aggies. I hate all things Aggie. Standing for no purpose the entire time at a football game is Aggie. It was aggie stupid in 1968 when I observed it for the first time and it is aggie stupid today. The problem is that the aggie stupidness seems to have spread to aggiesque mentality tyes at DKR. Since only
aggies did this at football games in 1968, that I know of or observed, the standers today emanate from Aggie either culturally of genetically. Last season, I believe I overheard one of the standers telling another fan to uncover.....and I believe the stander was wearing overalls....

I can't tell from the original post if anyone else in the sections stands, or if it is just him?

If people in front of me are standing, I'm going to stand, so that I can see the game. If they're sitting, I'll sit, so that the people behind me can see the game.

I have no idea why this is a big deal to some people. Common courtesy dictates that you should consider the people around you. If you're not doing that, then I can't help you. Nobody can.

There's one and only one solution for this problem, and I am shocked no one has made the obvious suggestion, which will quickly end the debate.
You walk up to the guy and beep his nose, then toss a coke on him. As any regular reader of HornFans knows, this is accepted etiquette for problem solving at DKR.
Now you don't have to write Dear Abby, Oprah, or Dr. Phil.

BurntOrangeGuy, you make some valid points but overlook some of the other things that I wrote. I said we would like to stand the entire game ala the BCS Championship Game and the NCG but we do not in consideration of this rude man. He actually lost all rights to consideration by acting like an a-hole at the first game two years ago right out of the gate. By the way I am not the only fan in our area who thinks this guy is a jerk. To me going to a game live means it is outdoors, loud, exciting, frequently hot and lots of times you need to stand to see, to cheer or whatever. If he wants an unobstructed view all of the time then he could watch from his couch. I agree standing for no good reason makes no sense. The comment about being "aggy" is a cheap shot, as was my comment about his spouse. Cadets at West Point stand for the whole game. Are they "aggy?" I am not switching seats with him because I like the people I sit next to and behind. I will try (I am biting my tongue here) to be more considerate of this guy but I also paid for my seats and will stand when appropriate.
immtex- I hope you stand when the band comes on the field.

Alright,
I am younger than many posters here I am sure at 33 years of age, so I take that into consideration...but..

I graduated from Arlington High school in 1995, and my older brother graduated in 1992. We had season tickets from the time I was born (yes, to HS football) and starting in the 5th grade my folks let me sit with friends, NOT them. We played and still do at UTA's Maverick stadium, which is a good sized place for HS football, so it isn't ever a sell out for a regular season game on the home side. In the 5th grade, we stood the entire game. That would have been roughly 1988. I may be off a year or two. I have stood at every football game I have ever been to since then.
If you want to sit, put your *** in your oversized barco-lounger in your air conditioned house and get your obese behind down in a seated position.
If you want to support the HORNS, get there early, yell until you can't talk (obviously you don't yell during offense, but when we are on defense then you better be screaming your ever loving guts out). Half time is for sitting. After we win and sing the Eyes, then you sit, fine. You do NOT sit during the game.
I have a good friend who sits in the North End Zone. There is one section there. I think it is 118, but I might be close. They are complete panty wastes thought really ought to stay home. You should be there ready to go for your team. If you aren't willing to give 110% for your team, stay at home.
This is one of the reasons DKR is less loud than some strenuous turd excretion sessions I have in my own bathroom. There are 100,000 people there... it should be DEAFENING.

Stand up, in your space, you paid for your ticket which entitles you to your space. You paid for your ticket which is a committment on your part to do everything in your power to win the game.

I need to add to my last post. If you are crippled or old then obviously you can't stand the entire game. Please be considerate of those folks. (kids too) (also my earlier post was somewhat tongue in cheek)...

I just get tired of people who come and don' cheer, and don't yell. That gets my goat way way way way more than people who stand.

I am always amused at those that feel that if one wants to
stand and block others from seeing that it is just fine,
because they are supporting the team, being loud, etc.
So, my question is if you are standing (exercising your
right to be, uh, whatever) and you found your seats were
directly behind last year's offensive line, blocking your
view and ready to kick your *** if you bitched, what then
would be your opinion?

Usually 'last year's Oline' should be preparing for games on Sunday, so I don't see that as a very realistic issue.

This is not hard........

In the 3rd quarter when the Horns are *** kicking ULaLa by 50 points, I say sit your *** down.

In the same quarter with the Horns in a shoot out with Tech, OSU, etc. get your *** up and make some noise.

Stand up when something worth standing up for is happening in the game.

Standing up more than others does not prove you are more of a fan than others near you.

I come to the games to actualy watch the game. All parts of the action you can't see on TV, and to enjoy the sights adn sounds of the event.
i sat behind 2 couples in thier 20's at the last OU game. They insisted on standing up and had thier hands raised with horns up the entire game and looked around at every one else like there was some kind of tradition that called for that. At half time they left to get beer and made it back very drunk about midway through the 4th quarter, missing much of the action of the 2nd half. When they returned they continued to stand up with thier fat butts in front of my kids the whole time.
They seemed very Aggy to me although they had 'Horns gear on from head to toe. Try to avoid being that kind of stand up fans.
