Ethiopian/African Food in Austin!

On the N.W. corner of MLK and Nueces (where Chu Mikal's was) is the World Beat Cafe. They serve African Cuisine of various sorts and best of all...ETHIOPIAN. For all you jokesters, no it is not dirt and a grain of rice. It is very good.

They also have great burgers and veggie stuff. One of the few things I missed from the (L)east coast was the cultural diversity and food...one of my fave foods is here again.

Ask for Lawrence and tell him that the Bus Driver told you. You are then family. Oh, it is spicy so beware.

I had the Haile Selassie special with a slice of Sally Struthers Pie for dessert.

I cannot tell what is funnier, your words or that graphic. LOL! After today, I needed that. Danka.

I am on my way right now to go grab some Ethiopian grub...yum. I still highly recommend this to anyone that has an international palate and an open mind...it is incredible...wherever you live, try ethiopian. I am so hungry. Tell Lawrence that the bus driver sent you...you will then learn my name, damnit!!!

I once knew a guy named Lawrence who brought a shotgun to school, at like 5AM and shot a window.

Could it be you Loop(y)?

I ate there for the first time last Friday. I agree, it's good stuff. I first had Ethiopian food when I lived in DC. I'm glad Austin is diversifying a little, although I could use a little more of it where I live in S. Austin.

Will, I suggest getting the Kitfo I believe...it is the chicken w/ lentils and then your choice of a veggie..I usually get the potatoes...you will get a bread that is thin and sponge like...that is your injera bread...break off a piece and encompass the food. Traditionally in a group or family setting, the food is put atop an unfolded and circular injera and people eat w/ thier own injera...then after the meal, if you are still hungry, you eat that bread. No waste that way.

I suggest getting the mild instead of the hot so that you can get used to the flavors of their spices...then you can get more bold if you like later on...better to be safe than sorry. If you know in advance when you are gonna go, let me know and i'll meet you there...i don't turn down chances to eat there often. Have fun and enjoy.
