ESPN's Schlabach ranks the BCS National Champions

being that the '05 trojans were better than the '04 version, i don't see how '04 is ranked ahead of us.
ou should be tied for last with tennessee, btw.

I can see the Hurricanes ahead of us, but the 04 Trojans could not beat VY and the 2005 team.

We still do not get credit for sitting out players for most of the second halves of the season that year. I think VY only played in five 4th Quarters the whole year (tOSU, OU, OSU, aggy & USC). There were several more games that he only played one series in the 3Q. We would have destroyed every record if we had just played out starters the entire 3Q.

We should be #2 I believe. If Vick ran circles on the FSU team i cant imagine what Vince would have done to them. Funny how we should have played that Miami team to if we would have beat Colorado.

USC in 04 was much better on defense than their 05 team, that said 05 Texas still would have beaten them. Texas should be #2 behind the 01 canes team. Texas would have scored 50 on the 99 FSU defense.

that 01 canes team was overrated, both USC and Texas would have stomped those teams. Florida St. being ranked that high is a joke as well.

Also, there's no way you can put 2000 OU below a 12-2 LSU team, even if it was in the SEC

Remember that in 2000 the Big 12 was a very good conference. OU beat 4 teams that FINISHED in the top 12 that year, and 3 of them were from the Big 12 (KSU, Texas, Nebraska)

i understand how it makes sooners feel better to think that '04 was a better team.
it was a rough 2 years for ou, getting publicly flogged like that (lsu, usc).

Completley agree with the ESPN writers list.

the 2005 USC team had a pathetic defense. Horn fan are the only people that still try to prop up that team. There were numerous teams that scored at will against SC that year.

The 2004 SC team had the same offensive players, and a badass defense.

The 2000 OU gets a lot of credit for going through the BIGXII when it was by far the best conference in the country and shutting out an FSU team that came into the game with an incredible offense.

'01 Miami looked better because of the lack of competition from anyone else that year, but I would not put them up there as a team for the ages.

'05 USC averaged 12 more points per game than the '04 team.

I think too much stock is placed on what teams looked like on paper than what they actually did on the field. What about factors such as leaderhsip and team chemistry? When you look at what the teams accomplished, who they beat, and where, I think '05 Texas would beat any other team on that list. '01 Miami and '04 USC would have held Texas to less points, but they would not have run roughshod over our defense the way '05 USC did. That was one of the most unstoppable offenses in college football history.

The 04 Sooners shut down basically the same 05 UT team.
The 00 OU D. would pretty much hand it to 05 UT.
Hell, the 04 USC would have been pretty rough on the 05 UT team.
I know, I know, you guys like to say it was the same USC as the previous year but, the stats don't back that up.

'04 defense
#1 rush defense
#34 pass defense
#3 scoring defense
#1 turnover margin (38 defensive turnovers)

'05 defense
#31 rush defense
#73 pass defense
#35 scoring defense
#2 turnover margin (38 defensive turnovers)

Throw in a then departed Norm Chow & Orgeron as coaches & USC wasn't near the team in 05 as they were in 04.
The 05 UT team was good no doubt but a number of OU's teams this new decade alone could have beaten UT in 05.

Miami.......04 USC......FSU......all have one thing in common.

None of them could have beat Vince and that 05 team.
