ESPN's breakdown of OU

I think OU is as stacked as ever, but I still think we make it a damn good game either way. Call it my burnt orange glasses, but I hope we can beat them with the passing game. If we follow the Tech model from last year and try to kill them in the flats with the TEs, RBs, and flankers, we have a good chance. OU is weak in LB, but also lost some good talent in the secondary, so if we can exploit the medium game we stand a good chance.

Bradford did not beat us last year, the run game did and we have a better secondary (I know they had 3 passing TDs but two were short and set up by the run). If our front 7 can keep the run contained we have a good chance.

OU has 3 defensive linemen who will be high draft picks at some point. A dominating defensive live forgives a lot of sins on defense.

I would be suprised if Calhoun played. Johnson was in for the spring and got reps with Murray out. I think he plays in the fall but his reps may depend on Murray's injury status.

The strength of the defense will be the DL. LB's and DB's are playing some young guys and shuffling guys into new positions. I don't see them having a very good defense against teams that spread the field. They don't have enough experienced DB's to play great nickel or dime packages. I expect them to blitz quite a bit to try and makeup for their weakness at LB. Offenses may be able to scheme their plays away from Harris and Holmes.

I don't agree that OU should go undefeated. There are a few teams this year in Big 12 with great outlooks and spread offenses including Tech, Kansas, Mizz. Though OU doesn't play Mizz in regular season they do play Tech and Kansas at home.

TexasJack, I think you've got your theory backwards.

Based on returning LB personnel, teams would be better off trying to run right at our defense. Assuming Austin Box, Travis Lewis and Keenan Clayton receive the lion's share of playing time with Ryan Reynolds in the middle, speed will be our strongest asset. I don't think running to the outside or screens in the flat would be the best strategy of attack.

I'm also of the impression that redshirting both Justin and Jermie is the right move unless injury dictates otherwise. We've got 3 proven commodities in DeMarco, Chris and Mossis. I don't think it's a given that these 2 frosh are going to bolt for the NFL early. Neither strike me as a sure-fire gamebreaker.

I'd love to be proven wrong, though.

Our front four will mask some of our deficiencies in the back seven. How much will need to be masked is the $64,000 question as the season approaches. Everything else appears to be falling into place.

A question for the hillbilly lurkers... With the entire offensive line back, with a salty defensive line, with playmakers on offense and increased speed on defense, and with no "Team of the Century" present in college football this year, if OU does not win it all, how much concern do you have that under Stoops, OU may not be able to win the MNC again? You will be favored in every game. You will have more talent than every team you play this year. You will have more experience than every team you play this year. Your team has conference championship game and bowl game experience. Is this a watershed year where if you don't win it all... doubts concerning St. Stoops creep, slowly, inexorably into the mindset of OU fans?

I will expect Stoops' letter of resignation, the announced termination of every asst. coach and everybody that was on scholarship during the season to be deducted one (1) month of a free 07 LS sedan test drive. There will also be beheading.

in the one game i saw cincy play last year, they were knocking the every loving **** out of the other team. reminded me of a mike stoops defense.... or even texas last year at the cotton bowl. even though yall lost that one, there was some really hard hitting going on.

OU should have a very good team this year but whether or not they win the Big12 is another thing. The Big12 is very strong this year and will be tough games evey week. Texas is no cakewalk and neither is Tech. Don't forget that they go to KSU and Aggy. Kansas should be solid and OSU should be the best they have been in a few years. I'm not saying they aren't good enough I'm saying this will be the least predictable season in the BIg12 in a while.
