Is Gail a failure? Why are we not among the elite teams in the country? Why is it taking this long for Gail to get things going here? I am totally confused as to why she has not had the success she enjoyed at her prior stop.

Enlighten me.

A lot of it for recruits come down to winning! I do believe this will be the year we turn the corner!

It took three years to reach the NCAAs at Duke. She has done it here from year one. She’s not only on track here, she’s ahead of what she did at Duke. It was year six at Duke before she led a team to the elite eight. It was year ten at Duke when she started her run of Final Fours. Did you really expect her to start taking Texas to the Elite Eight/Final Four right off the bat? That was an unrealistic expectation by anyone. This year should be the one where there is a definite step forth, not so much in the season record (average of 21 wins so far) but in winning in the NCAAs, just like there was in her sixth season at Duke. She has put together a solid foundation with the players currently on the roster and it gets better with the ones coming in over the next two seasons.

Some bring up her 0-11 against A&M as proof that Coach G has done a poor job but fail to consider that Coach Blair of A&M was 0-9 against Baylor during approximately same time period before they broke through in the last game they played. During that time, Coach G had a winning record against Baylor. Unfortunately, that tends to be overlooked.

The fallacy of a sunshine pumper's opinion is just because Goestenkors excelled at Duke that she will thrive at Texas.

I started to post my full length commentary on why the program is where it is today but decided against it.

But I can tell you that the waiting and waiting of "talking, playing and acting like champions" is already old after 4 years of broken promises, and I'm sure those that truly support Texas women's basketball will say enough is enough and demand better. Not tomorrow or 2 years or 10 years but NOW. It's tiring seeing Texas doing early 1st round exits at the NCAA Tournament and having only a trophy from the Maggie Dixon Surf 'N Slam Classic to show for the season.

CP gave a 7 year contract. We are in Year 5 and there is no real reason to believe Texas will do any better as the season hasn't even started. I'd rather be surprised than disappointed at season's end than someone who thinks the glass is half full. (whatever)

The Big 12 is just that more difficult than the ACC ever was. It's either that or Goestenkors underestimated the job. I give it to her that she scored with her multi year million dollar contract!

This is finally one instance where I can say that myself and GG would agree with seattle. She did underestimate the job and even admitted such. I wouldnt say that the Big 12 is more difficult than ACC ever was because although top heavy that was a very dominant conference for that 4 to 5 year span. And as for that Mult-million dollar contract, lets not forget that in the midnight hours of the deal Duke matched the salary offer as was as adding the "lifetime" clause. So I dont believe that anyone could say that she came here for the money. She knows that being succesful at Texas would mean more than being successful at Duke ever would.

Seattle you also referenced "broken promises" and Im a little curious as to what you meant. I dont recall anyone promising elight eights and final fours as soon as she stepped foot through the door. As a fan I do understand where you would like to see the program and I also appreciate your expections. I just beileve that you truly underestimate two KEY factors: The state of the program when she took over and How difficult it truly is to build a contending program at the Division 1 level. Although I disagree with your approach at times, I continue to read your post and respect your opinion that everyone is entitled to. Im so excited because now that we're on the brink of success that we all covet, Im anxious to see when all of your energy is focused onto creating positive posts and constantly talking about all of the good things we do rather than the negative.

I am all in with all the positive that GG does inside and outside the program but I also want her (our) program to WIN. This isn't an either/or... I WANT IT ALL. I WANT UTOPIA and at Texas, given our resources, WE SHOULD WANT UTOPIA.

She hasn't recruited particularly well and that is a concern along with her team's performance. I wasn't expecting Elite Eights and Final Fours right away but she has had four full seasons now and I don't see ANY meaningful improvement during that span.

Blair (A&M) took an absolute disaster of a program from 6-19 to 25-7 in year four and to a championship in year eight. He didn't lose more than 9 games since his second year at A&M and has won an average of 27 games per year since his second year.

Our program was in considerably better shape than A&M's program when GG took over. She simply hasn't done a good job. There is no way to sugar coat it.

Once again WE ARE TEXAS! But we also can fall short sometimes as a program. If you want positive results, you as a fan most be positive. This will be a good year for us! I am excited for the players and GG. So everybody can stop drinking so much Hatorade. Hookem'

I sure hope we turn it around this year and the good times start. I want GG to succeed. I want her to win 5+ titles before she retires and have a statue of her on campus somewhere. I have nothing against GG. Just reflecting on what I see thus far... and that ain't much at all.

I understand! WashHorn
But seriously if we want them to be good,we got to be positive! The players and the Coaches read this board. What gets me, is to see fans cut them down before we even play!

So even referring to that last email in your post, There is NO TRUE TIMETABLE. And the "variables" she listed were extremely accurate. Most see steady improvement and this year will be no different. 25 wins is a bare minimum in my mind.
