Herbstreit just said his surprise winner for the Big 12 North is gonna be Nebraska...I reckon that would be a surprise if they won it over KU or Mizzou...

I don't know where he got that from other than he has faith in their new HC and the fact that they are Nebraska...

That being said they still don't have much team speed and their pass defense gave up big time plays last season...I think they have most of all those dudes back.

I guess the other question may be whether or not KU and Mizzou can repeat their success...the QB play for both teams seems to say yes.

You would take Sherman over Pelini? Don't know about that...
I can't recall Green Bay scaring anyone when Sherman was there and that was with Farve... At least Bo has coached at
the college level the past decade.

I too think Mizzou is the team to beat in the North, but they do play Nebraska in Lincoln this season and get KU, ou & Colo at home.

Neb has to go to Lubbock, Norman and Manhatten.

Nebraska winning the big 12 north is a joke. I think the previous poster meant he would rather have Pellini than Sherman.

I forgot a couple years ago he picked Aggy to win the Big 12...I think it was 2005...We all know who won the damn thing that year.

Yeh I'm not putting much stock in his predictions. Though I do agree with his assessment of Texas..they can be really good if they play with emotion like they did in the bowl game.

Lou had some good things to say about Tech.

Big 12 is going to be great this year and UT gets to play all the top teams so this is like a dream season for UT football fans.

Was it not a "surprise" pick? How could it be a surprise if it jibed with most people's reason and information available in the preseason?

Mizzou is definately the team to beat in the north.

Am i the only one that thinks Kansas will only win half their games this season.
Last year they avoided all the good Big12 south teams and had a VERY soft OOC slate which allowd them to pick up some momentum.
There OOC is again soft except for the trip to USF. But they also will probably lose to OU, Tech, Texas, Nebraska, and Mizzou. Colorado and KSU are no gimmies either.

Earlier today College Gameday had their preseason special and Herbstreit picked Missouri to win the north and OU to win the conference. He did mention Nebraska as a dark horse to watch. I missed what he said yesterday afternoon and have no idea what changed.

Their picks for BCS title game:
Corso- USC over Missouri
Holtz- Ohio State over OU
Herb- Florida over USC

holy crap, you are complaining because Herbie didn't pick his school to win the national championship game, you sir sound like a whiny titty baby. Herbie is relatively objective and not a complete homer and you are whinnig about it.

He mentioned or said that on Friday afternoon during that CF show they have....All he stated was that he wouldn't be surprised if the Huskers did well...I don't see it if you look at the schedule but I doubt he even did that...

I hate preseason predictions in any sport....especially college football. I do like it that the Horns are flying under the radar.

Consider the coaching in the North. Colorado and Kansas have a huge edge over Missouri in that regard. I think Bo Pellini is better than Gary Pinkel, too. Over the long haul, I don't think coaching will overcome talent, leaving Missouri as the team to beat, but I think they'll lose a conference game or 2 along the way because their coach is a borderline idiot.

Western Michigan-W
San Jose State-W
New Mexico State-W
Virginia Tech-W (my first big upset pick)
Mizzou-L (I want us to win this so bad, but I think Chase will be too much)
@ Tech-L (Too tough to win on the South Plains)
@ Iowa State-W
Baylor-W
@ OU-L (Though it may be closer than some expect)
Kansas-W (2nd big home upset)
@ K-State-L (Hangover game following OU, KU games, plus it's a road game)
Colorado-W (Revenge game, NU has two weeks and is at home. Huskers win this one)

8-4, 4-4 in league play. Alamo Bowl.

I agree with Bears92-the "dark horse" team in the north is Colorado. I don't this is their year to win it, but they will surprise people in a few games. I hope we do not get surprised.
