ESPN coverage of CWS this year

Have I been out of it the last few years, or is ESPN really amping up their coverage of Omaha this year?

Of course the changeover from Rosenblatt to TDAmeritrade is a story; but long press conferences with the coaches, the Costner-narrated movie about "The Long Home Run", full regional/super regional coverage, etc. is impressive.

The coolest of all was yesterday's press conferences. They had the 4 coaches from each half of the tournament on each panel.

Of course, Augie was there, curiously the only coach with a cap on, the "T" prominant and easy to distinguish who he coached for as compared to the other 3 coaches.

He looked like the wise old sage sitting amid the youngun's, particularly the UF and Vandy coaches.

A question was asked for each to comment on, something like "How does it feel to make it to Omaha?"

The UF coach (he as there last year) and the Vandy coach (Vandy's first year ever) commented about how special it was, how priveleged they felt, etc., good comments.

Then Augie: "Well, of course it's great to be back. We missed last year and our fans were getting restless."

The Vandy coach sitting right next to Augie kind of winced, with a bit of what appeared to be grudging respect and jealousy.

Good stuff.

Oh, and Hook 'em. Dog pile #7.
