Errors, errors ...

5 errors today against ORU ... Just when you think that we have turned the corner, we go and do something like this, that almost cost us the game today. I don't know how we won despite 5 errors, really.

Last year's team made 58 errors in 63 games. Through 23 games we have alreay made 39 errors.

This cannot go on, and it must change. Hopefully it will.

I just heard Augie on the radio . . . he implied that changes were on the way. They'll actually get 3 practices in this week, which might help.

Really, on that one play the PA people should have started playing the theme from Carmen. Augie said it was the worst play he's seen in his career. That is quite a statement, given his longevity. Lets hope the three days of practice help. Looks like the infield sure as hell needs it.

These are the kinds of things that get worked out in practice. But how is the team supposed to practice when it's playing 5 games a week?

The NCAA buffoons need to address this scheduling ******** at the end of the year. In their haste to address the concerns of northern teams, they failed to take into account the interests of the "student" athletes. NCAA officials and university Presidents ***** about how much class time a football player would lose during a playoff, but then they don't mind forcing baseball players to spend 25 days a month travelling and playing.

Yes, Augie stated there will be changes in the lineup immediately. He will try different combinations at second base, shortstop and third to try to come up with a "championship team." He said the current level of play is unacceptable.
So expect some new faces in the lineup, and some familiar faces at new positions until this situation is improved. We are going back to day one, it would appear.

But then again, if you told me that returning pitchers Wood, Kasparek, Hunter would all be over 4 in ERA, with McCrory and Shinaberry over 9 AND that Kyle would be sitting with 1 HR and 7 RBIs into 23 games, where we made 39 errors to go with it all, I would suspect that we might not even have a winning record.

Somehow we are still at a decent 17-6 record .. Partly because of a not-so-tough schedule, but mostly because of the contributions from so many newcomers.

Hopefully we can only get better. I agree that the error problems will ultimately improve.

What kind of infield changes do you think will be made? Ideas? SS and 2B need some new looks IMO. Can Preston Clark play IF? Who else on the bench can play? No one else has seen the field this year.

Kyle Russell. At what point do you call a slump something else? How many more games of non-production do you wait to give another guy a shot?

Can't take out Kyle, we all know he can hit and when he does nobody can match him. He just needs a break, something to get him going and take off the pressure he is putting on himself. I was hoping he'd get a big hit last night but he kept on walking. Besides, it would send a horrible message to the team. Kyle is a team leader and the guys look up to him. He gave up a lot to come back to play at Texas, he deserves to be given the time to work out of this.

Go get em Kyle. Your season starts with Nebraska.

I agree with a break, too. I thought that is what the Tech series was. Going forward from here, if continues to bat low .200's, do you keep in the line up all season?

I believe Augie stated Preston Clark was a good third baseman, and would be given a trial there. The other changes would be at second and short, but can't remember the possible combinations that were mentioned.

I meant a break as in a break from the bad luck he's having, such as getting a meaningful hit. We all know baseball is a game of momentum, he just needs to get a little something going. He'll never do it if you pull him.

Kyle went through a slump last year, as well...though he continued to hit home runs through it. Also, teams have been pitching around him all year. I feel like his hitting will start to improve, at some point. We need his offense AND his defense. The fact that our record is what it is, in spite of his slump, is encouraging for when he breaks out. Things will start happening in a positive way now that the five game weeks are over.
