ER

Cue the cool guys who --literally -- did not know that show was still on the air, who thought that show was cancelled 5 years ago, and who wonder who in the hell still watches ER???!

i have never once watched this show nor do i know anyone that has ever watched it. hard to believe that it ran for like 15 years... out of curiosity, what exactly made this show worth watching? what made it different than other shows? just asking as someone who grew up always watching NBC's thursday night lineup...

ShortStroker, so you watched Friends every Thursday night, but you never bothered watching ER? Man that is sad.

Sad to see it go. I think I'm one of the few that never missed an episode. My wife gave up on it years ago but I hung on until the end.

I never missed an episode, either. I'll miss it. It was 1000% better than all the reality crap on TV now.

I loved ER for the first few years, when it case-driven. But they lost me when it started being more about the lives of the characters. At that point, to me, it was just General Hospital PM.l

I haven't kept up in the past 4 or 5 years but watched the finale last night. I agree, great ending. Just another day (and crisis to calmly attend to) at the ER.

I watched it for year up until about 2000. The plot lines of the newer characters became a little too soap opery starting with Maura Tierney (who is a wonderful actress). I turned on the last episode last night and the gusher from the delivering mother was over the top and, later, the characters reminiscing in quiet moments didn't draw me in.

For fans of the show, sorry your old friend is on the elevator downstairs to the morgue.

i've watched ER on and off for the last 10 yrs. watched parts last night, and saw the end. i couldn't handle the gushing and screaming.

it's sad to see a quality show leave. when are these reality shows going to start fading away?

I'd catch an episode here and there over the years and usually enjoyed it when I watched it but never followed it religously.

I hadn't seen it in recent years but tuned into the season opener this year with Mekhi Phifer (which was especially powerful) and was sucked in immediately. I ended up watching every episode this year.

It's a shame the quality productions on television are gradually dying out, or at least moving to cable. It's all about low budget reality shows that still bring big ratings.

The downward spiral to Idiocracy has begun....

Agree with Texanne and Roma. It was good for the first half of the run then it went down hill.

Clooney was in an episode a couple weeks back with Marellis or whatever her name is...

was it better than the st. elsewhere finale? i hadnt watched er since cloony was on the show. did he make an appearance?

the reason i stop watching it. Every episode was sad and gut wrenching. I just couldn't take it anymore and there was a part of me that i felt my emotions were being toyed with.

This is coming from a guy who usually seeks out gut wrenching and sad entertainment. It can be a fantastic cathartic release. I really do appreciate media that can find a way to elicit such a raw emotional response in an ever increasing cynical world, But ER was just unrelenting. I literally could not take it anymore.

I have watched it from the beginning and thought the ending was very good, a logical end to things. I was wondering if it was going to be a contrived ending like shutting down the whole hospital or the ER blowing up. As someone above said - just another day.

I like how they drew some of the former cast in with the story of the Carter Center, and completed the circle with Pratt's brother and Greene's daughter joining the crew in the ER, and Carter most likely staying there now. A very believable ending pretty true to fomer storylines, like BSG last week.

I also liked how they brought Clooney and Margulies in as well, a couple episodes before. I just wish they would have found out at some point exactly who got the kidney they harvested and sent to Chicago. But again, pretty believable.

The storylines on ER did get over the top sometimes, but I always enjoyed the acting. Paul McCrane was especially fun to watch. I will miss it, but it went out well, IMHO. Now we just have Jay on Thursday nights - sigh.

texas ex 2000,

To answer your question, I'm 28. I'm not arguing with you that it wasn't a popular show. I just don't happen to know anyone actually followed the show. Maybe my roommates and I in college were just too busy studying, partying, and starting small fires in girls panties to pay attention.

Great show when it began. It did decline as it aged. The Loves Labor Lost episode is one of the best, along with the Ray Liotta episode a few years ago. I'll miss the show.

I used to watch religiously late 90s until about '03. Then I gave up on it, too soapy. I didn't get to catch the finale though, since I was out of town and didn't set a DVR timer.
