EPL and US ownership

I just was thinking about this and find it amazingly curious. I believe that there are 3 and exactly 3 EPL teams owned by Americans. They are Man U (owned by Malcom Glazer), Liverpool (owned by Hicks), and Aston Villa (owned by Michael Lerner). These are also the 3 teams atop the standings currently in EPL... curious I think.

The only one that is not standard or sort of normal is Aston Villar. Fans of the two other teams expect this and got this often, very often. I don't think the U.S. ownership has anything to do with it. Besides, they are not running the team, they have soccer people doing it. I doubt they are very interactive. I could be wrong.

I would love to see Mark Cuban get a team. Those fans would be very happy as their experience would be enhanced with promotions, entertained on the field and the players and coaches would have an owner that would speak out over any rubbish going on by ref's or the league.

It's Randy Lerner (who also owns the Browns), not Michael. And there are others with significant stakes, like Stan Kroenke at L'Arse and Appleby at Derby County. Some, like the Glazers and Hicks/Gillett are just gold-diggers, looking to cash in on the next great wave, and they've engendered a lot of ill will. The Glazers at least don't seem to interfere with SAF; Hicks/Gillett arguably are hurting Pool with their screw-ups on the new stadium and on again off again feud with Benitez. Lerner seems to be doing things the right way, hiring a cracerkjack manager in Martin O'Neill, giving a decent amount of support, and staying out of the way - i.e., not acting like an American (or Russian either, right Roman?). Right now, I'd say it's Villa's American keeper, Brad Friedel, who's doing about as much for the EPL as any Yank, owner or player.

As for Cuban, I'd like to see him charge out on the pitch and challenge a Howard Webb or Graham Poll over some call. He'd find his arse on the ground pretty quick, I'd think.

Hey Nap, sorry I missed your thread. I just didn't see it... so yea, I guess I am a brick wall.

THEU - i think he's mainly pointing out the fact that your thread got a lot more responses than his.

I'll admit, i read this thread and said to myself, "haven't i read this before?"

sometimes it depends on what you name your thread....I saw his, but the title doesn't indicate the US ownership part.

Will everyone please stop giving me so much credit for this thread and instead divert it all to Nap. Thank you in advance.

(that help Nap?)

Seriously, it is ALL in the thread title.

ManU and Liverpool are actually owned by their banks.

Hicks and Gillett have to refi their RBS loan this summer. It's going to be interesting to see if they can pull that off.
