Engine Rebuild--Austin

Anybody know a good shop in Central Texas to get my engine rebuilt or perhaps get a good deal on a new short block?

We've got a 95 Camry, 4 cyl., with just under 18 kajillion miles on it; burning oil/leaking oil; one place (a dealer) wants $5,100 for a new short block, which is basically them saying "Have you been to our Sales Dept.?"

I'm leaning toward a new(er) car, but if I can drop--say, $2,500 or so--on keeping the Camry going and avoiding car payments for another couple, three years, I just might go that route.

In any event, before I send the ol' horse to the glue factory, I need a second opinion. Suggestions appreciated.

You might check out South Austin Machine Shop. It's the dark red building on the corner of Manchaca and Lamar. It's been there for 30 years or more.

Gunner, the car sounds like a champ. I would keep it. You could go cheap or expensive. 5100 dollars is ripping you off. I would PM accuratehorn.

Richmond Automotives on Prairie Lane in Austin is the bomb. He specializes in Honda/Toyo and will give you a great deal. He rebuilt my acura and then added the clutch job and still came in $200 under my original quote. And he welded my header as well.

Noone I've recommended has ever been disappointed.
