End of Baylor Game

Weird there's not much discussion of Baylor game on this board. Everyone acting like it didn't exist? Actually, a good 2nd-half by Horns and a chance to win.

My question: Barnes chose not to use one of his timeouts left on the last possession. You have a young team and you're willing to let them decide how they want to try and score at the end? And, then...after J'Covan jacks an errant 3 with 11 seconds left Barnes starts yelling at him. Really? You left it up to chance, and then you want to question the judgement of your point guard. I think that's very irresponsible coaching by the Head Coach...of a very young team.

I have to agree with you 69. I think Barnes goofed there. Our team is so young, they need solid leadership from the bench throughout the game to help develop leadership on the floor.

J Brown is great, and our best clutch scorer. We all know that. Baylor sure as hell knows it. so they collapse on him. What was the "go to" when they collapse.

We could use that "go to" play at critical times to keep the defense honest. Maybe Barnes has schooled our guys on that play and they just don't use it. I don't know.

And really, it happened again last night against Mizzou. Even though he took a timeout, when they came out and saw the zone they still 11+ seconds AND a timeout. A saavy coach would have quickly called it and diagrammed something else. And who knows Mizzou might have switched back to man.

Last play drive into 3 defenders on the side with the off balance jack with two shooters on the perimeter with their hands up and wide open by 12 feet is bang your head on the coffee table material.

I'll give them a no quit stamp however.

The end of the game seemed to me to turn on 5 specific events, mostly our own doing ... there were problems we had throughout the game such as playing 3 man weave, getting out of position on D, but still, we had a shot to win at the end and just didn't play smart enough basketball.

-Wangmene weakly reaches out and taps Acy on the elbow, not enough to effect his shot much but enough to hand Baylor a free point.
-Then coming down on the other end Brown quickly jacks up a contested 3 to waste the possesion. Can't have your upperclassmen making these last two plays.
-Baylor gets bailed out with FTs on what should have been a jump ball.
-Instead of either fouling Baylor right away or playing good D to get the ball back, we run 25 seconds off the clock and then foul them. This one was really really dumb.
-The turnover near the end when a 3 would have tied it (partially caused by a lack of good options due to running around like headless chickens).

agree except the timeout by Baylor was a good call imo, IF a player other than the player with the ball can call timeout. This was granted tonight, I did not know that was possible. For some reason, I thought it had to be the player with the ball or a coach.

imo Baylor did have possession, and the ref granted the timeout to the player standing two feet away, the player who did not have the ball. First time I had seen that.

btw, we got a similar call earlier in the game, they let us have a TO instead of calling a jump ball.

It was NOT a good second half by the Horns. That has to be one of the worst halves of the season.

Wangmene, love the guy but man shut up.

Barnes is not a two minute coach. The one time he called time out in the last two minutes against AM and Brown went through the pic's in the middle that was awesome. Against, Missouri and Baylor, very disappointing.

This team does play hard and I do think that Brown's two jacks late in the 2nd half were bad choices, not that he had many others.
