Emos

I am planning on going to the New Found Glory concert here in November, and wanted to know a little more about Emos. Is it a normal sized place, or is it larger or smaller then places like it? (I know I worded that question pretty badly) Is it 18 and up or 21 and up or all ages? Is the place pretty cool? Thanks.

it really depends on where the concert is being played in emos. out back, there is a farily large stage and standing room, but the inside stage is much smaller. also, their shows are usually 18 & up, and they mark you up pretty good if you are underage.

actually every show I've been to has been all ages. You just have to pay more when you are younger than 21.

I didn't know Midtown was playing. I may have to check them out. I saw them in Dallas two years ago and they were pretty good.

Well I just got back from the MIDTOWN show. It was awesome as usual, i really like the set up at Emo's, definitely looking forward to NFG.

I was planning on going to the Midtown show, but I started watching the football game on ESPN and completely forgot about it. I remembered about midnight and was pissed at myself. The Strokes are playing at Austin Music Hall the night before the NFG show and I may go to that also. NFG is going to be great. Something Corporate is a good band and Finch is really awesome. They are a little heavier the SC and NFG but they should mix well. I have never heard of the fourth band on the ticket.

I think Further Seems Forever is the other band, they are like a heavier Dashboard Confessional. The lead singer from Dash used to be FSF's singer. Something Corporate is awesome, I'm all about Piano Rock.

i think i saw further seems forever inside at emos in august...if it was them, they put on a good show - dynamite boy played before them.

november 2nd a band called karate is playing the inside stage. that show is going to be really bad ***.

FSF sounds like a good band. I guess I will get to the show earlier then expected to check them out. I was going to see the Strokes but then I saw that tickets were $30 before all of the extra charges were added on. They are a great band but I am not going to pay that much to see them.

is it me or do 95% of the people at emo's end up looking like a bunch of clones in their desperate attempt to be different?

i know what you're saying..."conforming to nonconformity". hell, i wear chuck taylors, but i can do it without trying to look like my life sucks.

at any rate, still a great place to see a show.

Hope I fit in at Emos. I guess I fall in the other 5% since I wear khaki shorts, polo shirts and sandalls. Oh well, at least it sounds like there will be some interesting people to look at.

I am not worried about what I am going to wear. I see the people you are talking about all the time at shows. At the Jimmy Eat World concert it was filled with about half college kids and about half 12 year olds, all dressed just like each other in their X games gear.

i wasnt trying to call anyone out or anything, i just found it weird that the one time i went to emo's i felt like i was at a halloween party and forgot to dress up.

saw Ash & saves the day at Emo's on friday. Ash is unbelievable! saves the day was good, couldnt hear the singer really because of the fans singing every freakin lyric.
don't miss Superdrag w/ the deathray davies at the mercury in December. if you guys like NFG, Midtown, etc, you might wanna give it a shot...

I saw Superdrag with Valve this past spring in Dallas. They were playing a warm up show for SXSW. I really didn't know what to expect since all I had ever heard were their songs Sucked Out and Do the Vampire. They were really great. Valve was also a really good show. I know that Superdrag is playing in Dallas over Christmas break and I plan on seeing them. However, the concert I am most looking forward to attending is the Old 97's show on New Years Eve in Dallas. They are a great band that put on a great live show.

nice! i've seen the Old 97s twice at Stubbs, pretty sweet. i think Rhett Miller just played here solo recently. havent checked out his solo shite yet.
Saves the day was great, a bunch of young fans, but the music was still rockin.
Ash was the bomb though, check em out.
yeah, I'm stoked for Superdrag and the deathray davies, i went to the same bill last year at the Mercury, it was fuckin rockin'. my favorite Superdrag live memory is from a couple of years ago at SxSW when Ray Davies came on stage with them. what a legend.
here's a (passionate) review i wrote about the new Superdrag album for HybridThe Link

my other reviews include Austin's own Schatzi, + that Weezer tribute albumThe Link

Well the concert was pretty good. Emos was a pretty cool place, but the area in the back with the picnic tables smelled terrible. It was easily one of the worst things I have ever smelled in my life.

NFG and Something Corporate were awesome. Something Corporate was the second band that played, so they only played seven songs. However, the crowd was reallly into it and they were good. NFG played for about 1:15 and was good. Nothing spectacular, but a very good show. I own the Finch CD and really like it, but they were terrible last night. All they did was scream all the lyrics to their songs, which is completely different from the CD. The songs on the CD have a nice flow are are real smooth, and the live versions sounded like the lead singer was being tortured. Didn't get to see much of Further Seems Forever, but they were okay from what I did hear.

The only other complaint I have is that it was an all ages show. Because of this, it was like I was in the middle of a junior high dance. Everywhere I looked there were little 14 year old kids acting real paranoid and hoping no one caught them smoking cigarettes. There were also a high percentage of parents at the show. They just hung out in the back while their kids went off and did their own thing.

ha, that's funny about the young crowd, EMO's is pretty infamous for their early shows, i dont really mind though. was NFG an early show?
have you heard the young heart attack?

Slowreader tonight w/ knife in the water! at emo's, early show of course

followed by another quasi pop fest at flamingo cantina w/ kissinger & cruiserweight.

could life get better?
