Emerging players in 2022

We'll have to see against better opponents, but Sanders seems a mismatch machine. On one play he pushes a linebacker out of the play and on the next he runs by a safety for a nice gain on a catch. With his height, strength and speed he'll probably be doing this in the NFL after he does it here.

If we are going to have a shot Saturday, both number 0 need to have big games. And I believe that they both could.

One thing i don't like about QE is his lack of mobility compared to many running qbs in CFB. I have seen a lot running qbs make plays with legs. Bryce young is a good example. This is going to be a detriment in many games. If QE can run he needs to show it, otherwise opposing coaches will have one less thing to prepare for which may help their play calling. Don't you know opposing DC coaches hated facing VY. We have to hope he becomes an elite passer.

He can't even park a car without it being towed; and you want him to run???

I bet he'd have run after that tow truck if he knew he was being towed.

He just needs to make sure to take some notes on what not to do if he ever finds a boot applied to his vehicle. I understand we have at least one expert in that field already on the team.

True...may not be very mobile....and this is a concern...but he posseses an elite skill - especially at this level- in that he still looks to throw when pressured and keeps eyes downfield.
Should have held that one he forced and taken 5 yds on a scramble, but, overall he's got one asset that may make up for mobility concerns. We need our line to continue improvement and thats the bottom line.

Young emerging players, "Rising Stars":

Obviously Sanders is emerging as a star player.

Sorrell is looking really solid getting pressure from the edge.

Murphy could be our best interior DT.

Banks is looking like a 4 year starter and future All-American.

Worthy and Ewers will connect on some of those deep routes, and when they do, Worthy will be shown on the highlight reels a lot.

Ewers did well for his first college game. He'll be tested a lot soon, as will our OL.

Banks 4 yr starter? In our dreams. He'll be a top 10 pick after 3 years.

Coburn
Coburn was making plays including a sack and running to the sideline to finish a play. Showed enthusiasm and energy which I have been waiting to see. Good for him and the team.

Yes, night and day difference from last year in my opinion

I think the question is, do you want a quarterback with elite running skills or elite passing skills? We could probably win with either but it is rare to have both “elite” skill sets in one player.

I suspect that over the next 4-5 years we are all going to be quite satisfied with a quarterback — Ewers or Manning — that excels in the passing department. That appears to be Sark’s preference as well.

Outside of Sanders, the one I noticed on Saturday was Guilbeau - always seemed to be near the ball. Didn't seem to give the 15-yard cushion on man downs like other corners we've had recently. Looked intense.

And made the block for Jamison to spring him for the TD during his INT return. The kid hustles.

Can't believe how off all the practice reports were about Jaylan Ford. Hopefully we can fix that in transfer portal next year. I'd expect DTD and/or Devin get more plays this week.

I was reviewing the roster while rewatching the game. We are going to need some DT (depth) and a lot of LB portal folks. Good news is that we are loaded at DB, RB, OL, QB, TE, and WR (if Omiere and Neylor are healthy next year).

I didn't notice anything glaring with Ford. I did, however, notice that ULM ran right at Brockermeyer as soon as we brought him into the game in the 4th quarter and they scored in 2 plays.

Austin Jordan was another on that long pass play where he was caught with stone feet on the WR cutback.

You watched a different game than I did then, and I've watched it twice now. Ford was actually worse the 2nd time. I'm not writing him off yet though due to 1 bad game. Maybe he was too hyphed up.

I'd be surprised if ULM had any specific plan to run at Brock at that point in the game, but his lateral movement is still way to slow to be a difference maker at LB. Reality is he's Sun Belt talent level at best.

I laughed at your “too hyped up” comment because I’m thinking of how hyped up would he be for Ala?

That is not what you saw. Well, maybe it was. That’s not what happened though. It was more than two plays. It was 5 so there.

It is the damndest thing that Brockermeyer gets blamed for what appear to be others screw ups. I’m sure you won’t watch it again. If you do, note that Brockermeyer is shaded inside shoulder of the RT. The run is probably in the B gap to the opposite side but hard to tell since the hole was about 3 gaps wide. But it’s his fault cause “he got close but didn’t close the deal” while the playside LBer did not get blocked, didn’t find the ball. Not only that the playside LBer found himself in the same hole with another dude and they widened the gap to make matters worse. Interpret that how you will. So in summary, it’s Brockermeyers fault because he was a half step late after possibly ensuring the ball is going right (mind you his side doesn’t have an unaccounted for defender), engaging an Olineman (probably his mistake here), getting across 3 gaps while Richardson (his side has an unaccounted for defender) is one gap over and unblocked. Tapp and Bryant get whipped. LTG never sees the ball even though he’s unblocked and it comes right at him. It is certainly possible that Luke was the major culprit from what the play call dictated, but there’s no TD if the 4 guys on the playside do anything worth a damn.

I’ve seen 4 different forums not hesitate to blame one dude as quickly as possible and ignore what really happened.

And I just wonder why you don’t recall Ford missing 3 tackles. Two he was not blocked and that wasn’t because he’s so special at evading blocks. That’s the beauty and greatness of team football. Pick your teammates up when they miss.

I didn't say that Ford had a perfect game. His missed tackles just didn't lead to much. Brockermeyer was definitely at fault on the long TD run... Taaffe had the outside lane off RT and Richardson had the first gap. Richardson looked dumb with his back to the play, but the runner wasn't his man there.

This also doesn't even mention how Brockermeyer overran the improv pass play that led to the 40+ yard gain, but I guess we can't expect him to do it all.

So I’ll just add here. He’s not a difference maker. He potentially adds a guy who does his job, which would allow difference makes to be difference makers. He is 100% held to a different standard than any other player we have. Jones is 2nd. There really isn’t a close 3rd.

Watch his first two plays against ULM. His first play he filled, shed and tackled. And that was a starter he shed as best I can tell. Pretty sure he did on play two as well but no credit for a tackle.

Watch last years games. His pass defense. He doesn’t just blindly drop. Ask yourself why a LBer is tackling RJ Snead 25 yards downfield. Then ask how often do you see that. Ford does. Most LBers do. Do we have a different game plan for him versus others? No idea.

In at least half our games, our opponents longest runs came when he wasn’t on the field. So who screwed those up? In his very last game, WVU had back to back runs totaling 40 plus yards when he wasn’t in there and I think 50 plus on the drive. Remember like 3 3rd and 10+ conversions they had? He wasn’t in there. I’m not saying he’s the ultimate solution or that he shouldn’t be making more plays, but there is ******** particularly relative to his and Fords performance.

Dline production is key. Much of DMOs big production the other night was off the edge rather than ILB. The Dline was so good it was hard to notice that the ILBs didn’t contribute a ton. DBs tackled well.

Bull. Taafe, Richardson, Tapp and Bryant. 4 guys. 4 Texas Longhorns on that side of the field. ULM has an RT, a RG and a C. That is 3. And Bryant is lined up outside the C. And you want the guy 3 gaps over to make the play? I mean I do too but give him some help. If any one of those guys does their job, it’s a tackle.

Anytime a LB is playside and does not get blocked because the offense is outnumbered he MUST make the tackle. There should not even be a hole to run through. Poor little Ol Swanson taking the double team on the other side.

Ford didn't even register a stat, that's got to be record of suck. (34 other Horns did register a defensive stat)
UL Monroe vs. Texas - Box Score - September 3, 2022 - ESPN

Hope to see DTD and Devin get more reps there on Saturday...
