Email Addresses

I know it doesn't do any good, but does anyone have email addresses for Dodds/Plonsky? I've got to give them my 2 cents on the whole piped-in music / jumbotron volume fiasco. And cranking up commercials while ISU players were down was really lame. Anyone else notice we now have an ad within the replay (lower left corner), which tends to block what you're trying to see to begin with! Why bother? And I'm not some old bluehair who complains about everything - never sent a note like this before.

Add to your email a request to have part of the constant Jetblue comercial replaced with a running football scoreboard of the top 25 and Big 12 games that are in progress. You know, somthing that fans are interested in. This concept seems to work well in other sports, such as pro baseball and pro football. Eight identical Jetblue panels will not make me fly Jetblue any more than one Jetblue panel.

Email I received:

Hello,
I just wanted to address your email and some of your concerns:

1. Regarding the volume of the PA – this is something that we will continue to monitor and we are aware that this past Saturday, there were moments when it was too loud. We have discussed this with our audio crew and will monitor this even more closely.

2. Regarding “piped-in” music, such us music that is played prior to kickoffs, etc. – this is something the team has requested that we include in our game presentation and we feel it is a request we should fulfill on their behalf. It is no way meant to be disrespectful of the Band, Cheerleaders, etc. In fact the Band does play during EVERY TV timeout, except when a visiting band is present in which case we are obligated to alternate. We continue to encourage “Texas…Fight!” and other traditional crowd participation elements, and in fact augment it with graphics.

3. Advertisements – UT Athletics’ relationship with our corporate partners – sponsors and advertisers – is vital and necessary for the success of ALL Longhorn Athletic programs. We constantly monitor and manage these elements as best we can but we do have contractual obligations with sponsors that must be fulfilled, and I believe we do maintain a fair balance.

We always appreciate and respect the opinions and passion of Longhorn fans, and while some of these answers may not be exactly the result you are seeking, I hope they have in some way shed some light.
Thanks again for your email – and Hook Em!

Derrick Grubbs is that worthless piece of **** aggy who does the PA at baseball games. He wears me out with his bag of schitck - most of which is way too loud and intrustive to the enjoyment of baseball.

Grubbs also used to do and/or still does PA for the Express. He is a terrible PA announcer - terrible voice, terrible inflection. At the Express he had complete control over what was played when, and I'm guessing the same is true now that he is at UT. Explains a lot.

Also, his response to the volume is a typical non-response. The volume has been an ongoing issue since 2006. If they are truly trying to work on it and can't get it right after five seasons, they need to fire their audio engineers. It's not that hard to fix.

I get so tired of the Texas-Fight graphic and the Volume meter graphic. They always seem to show them until the ball is snapped and then they switch to game action. I sit in section 1, so when the play is on the north end of the field, especially goal line situations, my only real view of the game is often the jumbotron. But instead of watching the first couple seconds of the play, I'm watching some goofy graphic.

If the play is on the other side of the stadium, the only people looking at the jumbotron are the people that can't see the actual play and have to watch the jumbotron. I don't know why they feel the need to show these worthless graphics up until the ball is actually snapped.

godzillatron is way too loud for the same reason tv commercials are way too loud... b/c the advertisers are douches and the networks/athletic dept are greedy enablers.

If the advertisers were aware that their ads were at a volume that annoyed fans they may want something changed. To know their product or service is looked at unfavorably could get the ball of change rolling. Take the issue to their advertising people. When I think of jet blue now I dont get a good vision. It was not that way before. It is counterproductive.

Well it was definitely better this week. I actually turned to one of my friends this week and said Deloss must really like me because he more than took care of it - except it was almost too low to hear at some points - but I'll take it! Way fewer ads too. Maybe companies are pulling their ads due to performance on the field....

And Deloss did actually respond to my note on Friday (or at least someone in his office that he designates as such).
