Elmer Kelton

The Time it Never Rained is a masterpiece. There's no-one in Texas literature better.

McMurtry says howdy.

Kelton's The Good-Ol-Boys is better than The Time it Never Rained, IMO, but they are both great books. I never see it anymore but Tommy Lee Jones directed and starred as Dewey Calloway in a great TNT movie based on the Good-Ol-Boys.

I like all his pulp novels too.

If you liked the Good Ol Boys be sure to read The Sunshine Country. The continuing adventures of an aging Hewey Callaway.

The Day the Cowboys Quit is also a great read.
