Electric Smokers

I notice electric smokers are the rage, I have a couple of questions:
Do they work as good as non electric smokers?
Is the quality as good?
Is the cooking time the same as non electric?
Where do the wood chips go in an electric smoker?

I have one of these smokers and it works great. Most of the new electric smokers are high quality and built out of stainless steel. The cooking time is the same as any other smoker. If you look at the bottom of the interior you will notice a tent like device; the wood chips go in there and it sits atop the heating element to produce smoke. One issue for barbecue purists is that it is difficult to produce a good smoke ring with electric smokers. Without getting into all of the chemistry, you need to add charcoal briquets to your wood box to get any semblance of a smoke ring (there is no difference on the taste).
 
I believe that Texas law protects anyone who, on learning that you are using an electric smoker, firmly kicks you in the nuts. As it should.
