El Paso doesn't produce much blue chip high school football talent. Andre Jones' legal problems cost him a Longhorn career. But there's good news on the horizon from the Mountain Time Zone. El Paso El Dorado coach Jim Althoff talked (off camera) with an El Paso television station and indicated that junior receiver MJ McFarland has already made up his mind to become a Longhorn. McFarland is a 6'5" 215 to 220 lb "flex" receiver in the Dan Buckner mold. He's an outstanding basketball player but when he took an unofficial visit to a Longhorn game earlier this year, he decided he wanted to be part of the 40 acres experience. McFarland's leaping end zone grab resulted in the only El Dorado touchdown in a 10-7 loss to Odessa Permian on Saturday. Anything thrown his way, he's coming down with. McFarland attended the Longhorn summer camp and once Texas coaches got one look at him they knew they wanted him. One day Longhorn fans will see why.
