while i agree (not that there is anything wrong with believing in a god, just i just find it 'quaint')

i bet this is going to start an uproar.

and Jesus said

"Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 15 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it."

He said it, not me.....

Maybe there is more to the letter than they quote, but the initial sentence that says "Albert Einstein described belief in God as 'childish superstition'" isn't supported by the quotes below that. The full quotes say that the Bible's legends are childish and that religion is an incarnation of childish superstitions, but not that belief in God is childish superstition. Again, maybe the full letter says more. From this article, though, it seems to me that Einstein was just criticizing organized religion

From what I remember of the various books I have about Einstein, he very much believed in god, though not in the sense found in the Old or New testament. I though it was this belief that led to his obsession to find a unified field theory.

Einstein was required to have someone tell him when to piss, ****, eat, bathe, ect. Its interesting how his brain worked.
Personally I think shitting your pants is childish.

Einstein needed that assistant to tell him to go to the bathroom his whole life, not just when he was old. I have always found it remarkable his brain was capable of so much but still could not function normally.
As for his take on theology, I do not respect the guy because his brain could not function normally.

I don't think Eistein was against atheism, per se. he says he does not favor the crusading spirit of some of them, I would guess the Dawkins or, in his time, Bertrand Russel type. We should all be humble about what we don't know.

I think that is infinitely closer to the atheist view, which is that there is no case to believe in god as an explanation for the mysteries of the universe (or the non mysteries, odd as that sounds)

yeah, I think you are right dahobbs. Much in the same.

Maybe if I had Einstein's brain I wouldn't still be at work.

"A knowledge of the existence of something we cannot penetrate, of the manifestations of the profoundest reason and the most radiant beauty, which are only accessible to our reason in their most elementary forms -- it is this knowledge and this emotion that constitute the truly religious attitude; in this sense, and in this alone, I am a deeply religious man. I cannot conceive of a god who rewards and punishes his creatures, or has a will of the type of which we are conscious in our lives." - Albert Einstein
